The Amano shrimp is widely credited with being one of the first freshwater aquarium shrimp. It was made popular by noted photographer Takashi Amano. Amano Shrimp are voracious algae eaters and are well respected in the aquarium community for their ability to control algae in tanks. They can handle a wide range of water conditions which make them ideal for those who are new to shrimp keeping. In warmer climates these make excellent pond shrimp as well. Amano's do well in planted tanks, species only tanks and community aquariums with non-aggressive fish. Amano shrimp will live for several years and make a fascinating addition to any tank.
