Bamboo or Wood shrimp as they are commonly known are one of the few freshwater shrimp that do show up in local pet stores from time to time. These shrimp have not been bred successfully in captivity as far as we are aware of at this time, any specimen you will find is wild caught. Bamboo shrimp are typically found in fast moving streams and rivers in the upper mountains and hills of southeast asia. An interesting filter feeder, bamboo shrimp spend a good amount of time in the water column waving their fan like appendages. A fairly large shrimp, they can grow up to 12cm. Bamboo shrimp do well in large communtiy aquariums with peaceful fish. They will live for many years and are tolerant of slight changes in water condition.
