  • Food: Vampire shrimp use their specialized "fans" to capture micro-organisms and other bits of tiny particulate food such as crushed flake. We also feed our Vampire shrimp with Cyclopeeze powder. If you keep only one, he can usually support himself without supplemental feedings.

  • Water Parameters: These shrimp are very hardy and can adapt to most kinds of water conditions, provided they are clean. It does best when the pH is about 6.5 to 7.5, although it can adapt to pH ranges beyond those as well.

 
Information

A unique shrimp in the aquarium trade. Vampire shrimp can grow as large as 15cm making them much larger than most other species being kept today. Originally hailing from Western Africa, Vampire shrimp are sure to be a conversation peice in your tank. The name come from fang like front legs. While fierce looking, the shrimp is relatively peaceful. A filter feeder, Vampire shrimp are interesting to watch as they move through the water column in search of food. Vampires can be kept in communtiy tanks with tetra or larger sized fish, they will not harm their tankmates or disturb decorations. They can range in color from a bluish to tan depending on their enviroment.
 
One of the few african species available. As of yet, there are no reliable reports of this shrimp being bred in captivity. A great conversation piece or addition to your rare species aquarium.
