Amyers22 reacted to Loumeer in Finnex Planted Plus 24/7 dimmable
The answer to this is yes and no.
The 24/7 functionality is not dimmable or editable. You just press a button closest to your current time and the light goes on a preset timer and light function.
If you are willing to give up the 24/7 functionality the light has 3 or 4 memory slots where you can store custom white, red, green, and blue settings. The memory slots can be dimmable by editing the white color settings.

Anyone have one of these yet?
I currently have the Finnex Planted Plus and love the new features on the new fixture. Wanted to see if anyone had reviews on it yet.

I preordered the new 48" model on Amazon to change out the fluorescent bulb my 75g came with but have yet to receive it. I have the regular planted+ on a 5.5g (two) and one on a 20g long. I want to buy the new fixtures for a 10g and 20g high but they won't ship for 1-3 months which is just ridiculous so I'll just wait a little longer. I prefer using two fixtures for higher light plants and to really bring the red out.
I have noticed quite a bit of evaporation in my 5.5g but it's running two fixtures so it is to be expected.

Amyers22 got a reaction from Edwardnah in Marina hang on breeder box
For those of you that use these for selective breeding and housing shrimplets, is a small box too small?
I'm going to purchase one so I can separate my mischlings from my TBs once they are born. I know the small is 0.2 gallons, the medium is 0.3 gallons, and the large is 0.5 gallons. There's not much difference in volume of water between the small and medium, but is the physical size that different?
I want the smallest box that will safely and comfortably house shrimplets for there first two or so weeks of life.
If anyone has pictures of their boxes next to their hand or a pop can so I can see the size comparison that would be awesome! Thanks in advance

Amyers22 reacted to RyeGuy411 in OK fish heads, I need your help
Your best option is a Chili Rasbora they are tiny with tiny mouths and are voracious eaters of those pesky larvae. I have used them for the same purpose, took about 3 days and they ate all the larvae.

I have the small box and it is not small at all Plenty big enough for a couple shrimp for a day or two. As for light, I guess it depends how dim an area your tank is in. Moss doesnt need much light but if you can put a light on it easily with little fuss, I cant think of a reason not to do it.

I really suggest getting the biggest box you can physically fit. The large comes with dividers so if you want to confine some shrimp to small quarters, you can. You can split it into two or three compartments. Having the large size gives you flexibility when plans change. I started using my large breeder box for selective breeding but now I use it for growing out different strains of moss and holding culls. I really appreciate having more space with the new purpose.
The light is from eBay hacked a bit to bypass the original power switch. I also had to put a couple sheets of paper under it to prevent algae.
I also suggest modding the airlift to a small water pump. You can get this one from eBay for less than $10 and it is an easy mod. -

I've been keeping some aura blue tibee (ABT) females with some of my TB and today I was in for a nice surprise. I came home from work and saw that my ABT was finally saddled. So, I ran and got my camera thinking to myself that she'll be gone by the time I get everything set up. As I started taking a few pics and adjusting my lighting this male panda TB came out of nowhere and I managed to capture these shots. Even shrimp make weird facial expressions when they're getting it on like in the last pic.lol!

Some interesting things are beginning to turn up. I had both tibee mothers give birth and both are berried again. There are several that have this intense "snowflake" pattern on them. There is one that is red with a snoeflake pattern, I'll try and get a shot of it and post it.

I found this today. This has to be one of the coolest looking shrimp I've ever seen in one of my tanks.

I found this little guy today. He must have been in hiding. Does anyone know if spotheads start out this way? He looks like he just walked in from a snowstorm!

A couple of weeks ago I found a berried wine red. Yesterday the female mischling became berried. Today the panda is berried. I'm gonna go buy a lottery ticket tonight!

The feeding dish doesn't work in my tanks. The greedy shrimp pull the food right out and run away with it. You know.... sort of like Daffy duck "mine, mine, mine!!!"
The powders I feed sparingly. Just enough to fit on the end of a toothpick. You can see how it all floats away in the tank. A little goes a long way. I feed pellet forms of food as well. The more stuff you try eventually you'll notice what foods they like and which ones they don't.

Thanks. So it's almost like a mini water change. Don't know why that didn't click in my mind.

Playing with the camera again. It really boggles my mind how these creatures manage to molt.
Look at that bad-a$$ rostrum.
Details of the compound eye
Two different pairs of claws. One for sweeping and one for scraping. Look at the muscle on the scraping one.
Swimmerettes like feathers
Wonder what the tail spikes are for?

Amyers22 reacted to Jadenlea in My first bolt baby!
I just found my very first TB baby born in my own tank. This one comes from one of ShrimpScales Mischlings and I found 2 bolt babies only a few days old. The other was to far away to show up in a picture. Just saying.... Shrimpscales michlings do produce bolts.
I hope you all appreciate this low quality picture because it literally took me an hour to figure out how to circle something in photoshop elements 12 LOL
