So things are still doing great in the new tank.

I'm really happy with the simply design, but it's soooo hard to keep myself from tossing in random plants.

I'm also loving the painted back grown no more ugly tubes/wires.

Let me know what you guys think of my simple layout I try to follow the rule of odd numbers in my design.

I tried 3 of the affordable PH pens ranging from $20-$50 and I can tell you one thing. It's an absolute waste of money, but if you want to try it for yourself you can. A buddy also tried several of the cheaper ones with the same results as me, even tried on each others tanks and readings were all over the place (even after several "fine tuning" attempts were made).

The only reliable one so far has been the one James linked.

1 week after setup and have my first berried female mischlings.

Another mischling female is saddled so in a few days might have another female berried. If this tank explodes with pinto mischlings I might have to sell some sooner then expected.

Ok finally did my first water test this morning since setup..... I know crazy

    This is the test results

    PH 5.5-6
    GH 6
    KH 0
    TDS 154
    Temp 76F

All the shrimp are doing amazing and have really colored up since moving them. Only sad thing is the berried female that I transferred molted, but this was something I anticipated so her eggs are sitting in a small net over the sponge filter with the hopes that they hatch.

Another thing I figured I mention is the fact that I added some of my pinto mischlings that I created in another project to see how they breed in this tank.

Here's some pics of the shrimp as of this morning showing off their nice colors.

Ok talked with buddy about his setup. He used same ppi and he said if the blocks were cut for the tank correctly you won't get babies crossing.
Also his tanks running for 2+ years never cleaned the dividers with no flow issues.
He setup up 10 tanks like yours so he said dont worry flow and temps wont fluctuate between sections.

Greenteam got a reaction from Rodan76 in Shrimping may actually be a rabbit hole of doom.
Mineral balls are the snake oil of shrimp keeping because no one can prove they do anything.
Shrimp keeping can be very basic if you want it to be.
Must haves in my opinion are:
    1. Active substrate if keeping CRS/TB/Pinto.
    2. RO water with something like SS Gh+.
    3. A mature tank.
    4. Sponge filter/air stone (always helpful to have)
    Then you have bonus stuff:
    4. Natural things like leafs/alder cones.
    5. 2-3 foods to help with variety.
    6. Fancy addictive like mineral balls and so on.

I was actually inspired to go with the simple design based off your new tanks with the teddy Cholla. I will say that the clean design has a pleasing aspect to it, not to mention when the shrimp start to breed I will have a much easier time tracking the young.

I plan on doing my 1st real parameter check tonight & will post the results.

Looking good my friend. Simple seems to be better with shrimp. How are your shrimp doing, have you checked any parameters?

I don't know anything about pintos, so I was wondering why are those considered mischlings? They look like normal pinto to me

Greenteam got a reaction from svetilda in TDA Sky High in Shipped Shrimp??
TDS will always rise during shipment because TDS rises with a build up of organic matter AKA shrimp poop. Purigen is fine to ship with plenty of people use it with 0 issues.

I seen TDS go 300+ when people pack 20 shrimp into 1 Kordon bag and water had TDS 140 in their tank. You will get big TDS spikes if a shrimp dies during shipment because of the same concept organic waste.

Yes possible but a very lonnnnnng road ahead.

Or second option get some nice quality hinomarus and breed for say better quality white or better pattern coverage. This option is much faster and saves years of your projects.

A HUGE risk though. What about the filtration system of the previous tank?
Did you add a new one to it?

This is the mother of the baby pinto. She is first generation taitibee. She's not the greatest looking female in the tank but she makes beautiful babies! I'll be moving any pinto canditates into their own tanks and whatever I need to cull from that tank will go back into my taitibee cull tank.
