Greenteam got a reaction from Vpier in Seeding a new filter and tank
You can run new filter on old tanks to help it seed or you can take sponge from old tank and squeeze that mucky buildup onto the new tank.
Just a side bar tip: in your HOB filter I recommend you place Media at the bottom and sponge on the top. Reason is the media will never need a cleaning since the sponge will actually be one catching small particles of waste. So when you go clean the HOB you just take the sponge from the top and squeeze it out but never rinse under sink water.
Also if you have live plants you wont need the active charcoal since the charcoal is taking away all the goodies plants need.

Greenteam got a reaction from Soothing Shrimp in Strengthening CRS
If you have a Pure Line Red or Black that's when you never mix anything into it. There is high risk of destroying all the work that has been put into a Line if you add shrimp that are not coming from reliable source.
I would even go as far as saying that Mixing Pure lines like Benibachi/MK-BREED/Ellen Wang..etc have had some rare cases were results were undesirable.
It's also advised against placing a Pure Line tag on any CRS that are not Pure since the community is rather small and word of bad sellers spreads fast.

Greenteam got a reaction from Soothing Shrimp in LFS experience w/sick shrimp
I had something similar happen at a LFS. Watched a young kid tell a customer that that its ok to keep 3 red tail sharks in a 10g tank

You need to control the floaters otherwise it gets hard and out of control. Also if your running HOB it becomes a problem.
I have 3 tanks setup the same way doing well in terms of breeding and 3 half bare bottom which have just finished cycling.

Alita 15 hands down my favorite for smaller racks. Can easily run 12 tanks and crazy powerful with minimal noise.
Regarding light I would place the tanks vertical to each other an use one long light to illuminate them all (adding picture).
Substrate who knows.
The only must haves for me in any tank is driftwood (prefer malaysian), moss (noticed my shrimps love java), & leaf litter.

I emptied 2 tanks of 90% of the plants an left only driftwood and slow growing plants. So in one tank I still have the strong LED light and the other tank has a single T8 basic light. The tank with the LED the shrimp hide all the time, but the one with a low light the shrimp ran around the whole tank.
I'm going to try replacing the LED with a basic light and see if I get same results in both tanks.

used all 12 valves for sponge filters/air stones. I have it either above or level with the tanks.

Greenteam got a reaction from david in Red ruby and black mischling
1. Mischling x TB = a mix of more Mischling and a chance to get TB's.
2. You wont randomly get a pinto just from Mischling x TB. Even if you add a Tiger to the mix you should expect to get Tibee (adding picture for reference). It will take a few generations of selective breeding to start getting something that resembles a Pinto. If time is not an issue then give it ago, but don't expect overnight results.
3. TB x TB = 100% TB .... TB x Mischling = Hard to say. Many factors come into play like is the Mischling F1? Are you selectively breeding Male TB with Female Mischling? How many times has the line been cross back with Mischlings?
Best bet is to get enough TB's to remove the need for Mischlings. Then you get exactly what you want more TB's.

Greenteam got a reaction from Soothing Shrimp in Moving
One week is going to be a bit of a stretch for shrimp. It has been done in the past by others, but expect possible losses specially if temps & water parameters start to fluctuate too much.
If possible maybe a local friend can hold them for you then you ship/pickup after you settle into new home. Or you can sell what you have and start fresh once you get into new place.

Great looking tanks.
Looks like a good bit of work to maintain with all the fast growing stem plants. My tanks would turn into hot mess jungles if I had stems lol.
