Jaykidding got a reaction from Wygglz in Shrimplet survival rate
Well that was a guesstimate about how many eggs a female has and for the first week or so you may find some babies other babies may be hiding also shrimp daddy has an article about the baby stages. Some of your baby shrimp may not reach some of the stages they meet later on so that's why people don't see as many babies as there are as many eggs

Jaykidding got a reaction from Shrimpy Daddy in Planeria
Yup don't do that. Better to under feed than over feed. It's ok though you learned. So all you need to do is find the right planarian killer. For me I used to have a bunch of planaria, when I was observing my tanks daily I used to pick the huge ones with some tweezer. And then all of a sudden they all disappeared so now I have no more planaria.

Jaykidding reacted to DETAquarium in Interesting Taiwan bee
I would have to agree with Miwu. I am sure this is do to the amount of cross breeding going on currently. For instance I am seeing quite a few Pandas with these nice blue outlines around their markings:
I say if you like them so much, I am sure many others will and/or do as well, time to selectively breed them!

Jaykidding reacted to Shrimpscales in Interesting Taiwan bee
I found an interesting new type of Taiwan bee in my tank. Only two so far. At first glance they look like a regular blue panda but on closer inspection you will see the blue is translucent like a carbon or blue dream neo. The white that is normally behind the blue is gone. Is this new or has anyone seen them before. They are really cool and stand out from the other shrimp.

Jaykidding reacted to Shrimpy Daddy in Controsoil
For point 2, it is partially correct. Shrimp eats micro-fine minerals to supplement their nutrient intake via diet. Hence, it is not eating dirt per se. This is also why those mineral balls or rocks are almost useless. To further prove this, most of my tanks, including JRB tank is using inert black lava sand instead of expensive Aquasoil. You can see my substrate from the pictures in the link: http://www.shrimpydaddy.com/blogs/moments/16172401-japanese-red-bee-shrimps
Any form of substrates that is not too fine will be capable to trap debris. The trapped debris will be feeding the microbes and smaller zooplankton and they will them down properly so that water is not polluted. The microbe and smaller zooplankton will feed the big size zooplankton, and it will feed the shrimp. If there is no substrate, this micro-ecosystem will not exist for shrimp to graze and the water column will be easily polluted. As such, bare bottom tank is a terrible idea.

First you make tibee from taiwan bee (tb) to tiger shrimp. Then cross the tibee back to a taiwan bee which will result in a taitibee

Jaykidding got a reaction from JosephKex in Algae problem
Evening,
I was wondering what kind of algae this is. Is it harmful since it keeps growing back on my filter. When my crs population started going downhill was when I picked this algae and removed it. Today I picked it off in my blue bolt tank and one my blue bolts died. Yesterday they were fine my parameters are l
Kh:1 Gh:5 nitrates:0 nitrites:0 ammonia:0 pH:6.5 also my blue bolt that just died well it's not dead it's little mouth is still moving... Is there a way to save it? Thanks the blue bolt was on its side but I turned it over lightly to see if anything was wrong with it.

I think allot of people over feed and don't even know it. But I have never had issues with good reputable frozen blood worms. I only use Hikari brand

Definitely go with the "Fine" version on the substrate. I have used all three sizes, the "Extra-Fine" is to light and moves quite easily, especially if you use a canister filter. I also noticed when doing a simple task as catching shrimp with my net the substrate moves quite significantly.

Anyone have any recommendations on some shrimp food I should buy that are kinda hard/expensive to get here in the US? I have my aunt who lives in hong kong that bought all the EBITA BREED food, also she ordered some MK breed cheeseburger. So anyone else know good foods thanks!
