  1. Some people find this effective for them. An effective way to minimize param swing when using fans for evap is to have an auto top off.
  2. "Entries must be submitted by 11:59 P.M. on May 9, 2015, and I will do the drawing using a random number generator on May 10, 2015."
  3. Anyone know of any good aquaponics forums?
  4. Decided against AV for the time being. Beautiful plant, but so far away from my current hobby it would be like starting a totally new one.
  5. I have sf ABN, but am looking to get some super reds and green dragons. High quality of course.
  6. Believe me, I understand! Shrimpin' ain't easy sometimes. Feel free to pm if you'd like.
  7. If you don't have a cover, params swing wildly with evap. I also found a relation to hair algae and dead shrimp. I *think* the algae may be using up the oxygen too fast. I know some larger shrimp of mine and snails have gotten tangled up before in it and died. Overall, I think you did the right thing by removing it.
  8. Welcome to our family. Where abouts are ya from?
  9. I have granulated aquarium peat. How much do I add to a tenner to lower ph by how much? Kh is ~0
  10. Keep in mind, terrestrial moss can die very slowly underwater. 6 months or more sometimes. So some may look like they are converting, and actually die later.
  11. I've been requested to show some pics of my diminutus I have now. I grabbed my camera phone and took a few snaps. Crappy pics, but I'll try to get some better ones later. PH plays a large factor in color for these. When they arrived they were bluish. Now in 7+ the adults have turned color. The males are now tannish and the fems are blackish- this is in my 7+ ph. I'm theorizing the blue color is due to low ph stressing them somewhat from black to blue, BUT having said that- they seem to breed well in both ph. You'd think if they were stressed they'd stop breeding. So, who knows? The juvies are blue right now, but I'm guessing it is because they have thin shells atm. This is mom when she arrived. Unfortunately, she wasn't out and about so no pic right now of her color: This is dad currently in ph 7+. Note he is now tan. These are a couple pics of the blue juvies: Adults are as big as dwarf shrimp, and smaller than cpo. The babies can be compared to newborn dwarf shrimp as well. The blue color would be perfect in crystal params, I'm guessing. I plan to test my theory soon.
  12. No. You want me to take a few pics? I'll post them in my journal so I don't hijack Monty's thread.
  13. No, dims are smaller and a different cray. Mine are reproducing pretty well now, too. I did learn that low ph keeps the blue while 7+ makes them black. Not sure if that is because the low ph stresses them or not. However they breed well in both.
  14. I've been a fan of your crown shrimps for some time, Steve. I'm glad you finally gotten a chance to introduce yourself.
  15. Let us all know James. General consensus is it is not worth using, however myths are bountiful in this hobby.
  16. SKA Shrimps is a member here (jumpsmasher) and is in Canada http://www.shrimpspot.com/index.php?/topic/3061-current-livestock-list/ Also Shrimpfever is in Scarborough, Ontario.
