  1. I think it also depends on the kind of rack. I do mine length way as well. I also put 6 tanks per shelf back to back You can see that the board actually sits on the top of the wire in my case, so for extra strength I extend it out over the arms. (Ignore the mess.) The weak spot doing it this way is that the most weight is in the middle of the board. So, 600+ lbs does cause it to sag a little, but the wire is a nice reinforcement. If I were to put the tanks width ways, there would probably be less sag since the arms would take most of the weight directly. As it is, the arms take only the front weight . However, I accept this since I like to see the entire view for selective breeding. So, I adjust my water level as needed per tank due to any slope. I also drill some holes in the board and zip tie the wire to it. Since the wire (is supposed to) sit in L channels, the wire helps to keep the boards from moving.
  2. The larger the amount of water, the less the rise of TDS.
  3. Until a solution can be found for you from teh admin, are you able to upload it to photobucket or another source and use the url?
  4. I use 3/4" osb resting on the arms. I leave the steel grating there as added insurance. Be sure they include (or be ready to add) cross pieces to avoid splaying.
  5. No egg casings. The safest treatment that seems to work right now has been the dark treatment.
  6. I tried to make it pop a bit more for ya:
  7. My shrimp room can get 90+ degrees. I use a portable ac now from a theatre that doesn't need it anymore.
  8. Yep. Place each leaf separated by wax paper, or they'll freeze together in one lump.
  9. Is it giving you an error? What happens when you try to upload?
  10. I walk my twins to school every day, and many of the lawns here in Illinois are covered with purple viola wildflowers. So pretty. Almost reminds me of the path to the Emerald City. LOL
  11. How old is this shrimp? It looks as if it is not mature yet? That can be a real fooler when trying to sex.
  12. LOL That is the original reason I like pellet though. It stays in one spot, and I've come to favor teh quick breaking down into mush for the shrimp also. But that stays in one spot, and everybody still has to fight to get into the area. I'm not going to stop pellet because as a selective breeder I get to see most of my shrimp in a concentrated area when feeding it. However I may limit feedings to once a week of pellet or so, so everyone has a chance at their own food without fighting for it. The main thing I ma concerned about is fouling water with uneaten food. I can weigh out how much a pellet weighs and use a measuring device to put that much into the water as a powder. It just makes me wonder about how much each shrimp will be able to find food if not concentrated in a specific area, and how much will not be found and "rot."
  13. I'm only clean up, so the admin would have to do something since he has those controls. Now that time has passed, try again and report results, please.
  14. The newer bags definitely have a different feel and need a diff technique than the smaller Kordons.
  15. It would be interesting to selectively breed this shrimp for more coverage of metallic. What param do they need?
  16. Depends if you have an ice probe, heat sink, or what. Some are more efficient than others. I'll hold my reply though, because I'm only used fans as of yet.
  17. Are those metallic flecks, or different colored specks?
  18. Looks that way. Also looks like they are using the TruAqua mini sponge filters with the gravel.
  19. Oh, and Han has the SS sheeting on his site if interested: http://www.hanaquatics.com/stainless-steel-mesh/
  20. My idea of powder is to have the food go everywhere though, to avoid competitions for the pellets. For me to use a dish would be the same thing as pellet, no? Competition ball for food.
