  1. That's good news, actually. I'm experimenting with liquid aminos derived from soy and it has some naturally occurring sodium in it. My theory is that it will be exceptional for creating biofilm, however I have to go further in my testing.
  2. You could mix, but with that much gh, you don't know what else is in it. Plus tap seems to be seasonal. What may be one reading before, may be a different reading now, etc. Then you would have to figure out ratios each time, yadda yadda yadda. heh In short, you have neos. You may luck out and get them to survive, and even perhaps breed. However molting may be problematic, so you would lose babies and the occasional adult and so on. Essentially what happens is if the gh is too high, the molt becomes so thick that they slowly become "stone" and unable to molt properly. RO doesn't cost that much for a 10g tank (some people start by buying gallons at the local store and refill), and a jar of Salty Shrimp gh+ or another product will last you years with only 1 or 2 tanks. You can also get a cheap digital TDS pen that will tell you what your TDS is. I buy mine for less than $5 off Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/TDS-Meter-Digital-LCD-Tester-Water-Quality-Filter-Purity-Pen-Stick-0-9999-PPM-AP-/261729448598?pt=US_Garden_Tools&hash=item3cf04a7296 , others like some more expensive ones.
  3. Sounds as if you may have a bacteria bloom. Food didn't do it.
  4. Gh is not the same as TDS. (I'm not sure if that is what you are saying, or maybe I misunderstood.) Gh is general hardness, and TDS is total dissolves solids.
  5. Are you confusing TDS with degrees? Ideally gh for neos should be between 6-9. Yours is 26. Looks like you may have RO in your future...
  6. No. Carbons are neos, Hulks/BB are cards (TB). Different params.
  7. Awesome raok! I've been very uncomfortable with dish soap or popular soaps and doing shrimping. I'm all in for this! 1. The garden of Eder 2. Aquariumlover10 3. Soothing Shrimp

  9. yeah. I have some aminos I am testing and it also contains sodium.
  10. You are correct. Almost no culls with snowballs. Technically it is the lack of color that causes their look. Snowballs are actually White Pearl Shrimp. Blue Pearl Shrimp is another color that has been bred out from Neocaridina Palmata. In Europe they bred for another rare color- Amber. I think it is beautiful, however I have not seen it offered in the USA yet. Here's a pic of it from Russia. This is a color variety that may be lost forever soon due to the popularity of Neo Davidi. I hope some importer soon is able to offer some before the strain is totally gone.
  11. I'm guilty of not dripping long. I drip until TDS match, and temperature is close and then in they go. Very rarely had I had any problems doing it that way. Even the new TB I received, I did a 10-15 drip until TDS and temp was correct and in they went. No problems. Lower TDS sucks minerals out from the shrimp, and already being stressed fro shipping, it can cause problems if done quickly.
  12. What is the ph in the fish tank? As time goes on, fish waste can lower ph quite a bit.
  13. If the crs are breeding for you, and babies are surviving, I wouldn't touch anything for them. There are many people who would LOVE to have higher ph crs, and you could be able to help the hobby quite a bit.
  14. Does anyone have any idea how (Na) sodium (note: not table salt) affects shrimp? In humans it helps the electrolyte balance of the body, but what about inverts?
  15. r45, I think you may be thinking of pink fiberglass insulation? The type I and some other use is plant cellulose blow in fiber. Looks kinda like grey lint. No itching involved.
  16. Poopians, when I was selling on Amazon for a short time, I finally had to set aside my mindset of "this was legit" or "this was scam." It was driving me crazy, and in the end I just did what most online stores set aside misc cost for. Ended up replacing the items on face value of the complaint. I lost some money, but gained more customers when I did that.
  17. Tight knit community because we care about each other through our hobby, my friend. We'll help you get set up again somehow when the time comes.
