  1. Many fish will actively hunt. Cichlids, tetras, rainbow fish, etc. Heck, even dwarf puffers and large female guppies can do some damage. Someone even told me that larger goldfish and some plecos will do it if not too laid back.
  2. Reason why I ask is that you can try first some larger fish to eat the scuds, to maybe save having to break everything down.
  3. What shrimp do you currently have in the tank? Is it possible to move them temporarily?
  4. As awful as things seem to be, I've learned to never ask what else can go wrong. Tempting fates. However to add to what Doc said, I find the Serenity Prayer reminds me often in my life:
  5. Hatched are more work and eaten more readily. Also more mess. decap you can just feed immediately, not the mess, but the fish have to "learn" to eat it.
  6. as mentioned water pressure will play a part in TDS as well. Check you unit for ideal water pressure. If you water pressure is lower, you will have more TDS. No biggie to most people, but to some it is something to consider.
  7. Just ran across this in craigslist: http://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/for/4686294325.html
  8. I did know that, but I forgot about that. heh Thanks for the reminder!
  9. I can only speak for neos, because that is what I have the most experience with. The only thing needed for neos, IMO, is a container, sponge filter, substrate and a plant to help with water quality. Boom. Done. We like to try to make awesome environments because 1) WE like to feel like we are doing something, and 2) we want to see how we can set up the best environment possible. In addition, as a selective breeder, I like to try to get the best yield so I can further my projects faster. More babies = better chances of getting closer to my goal. (More culling too, but my fish don't mind. LOL)
  10. Frozen is fine. It breaks down the cell walls as well, and kills some ickies that may be on it, so it's an added plus. Some people even blanch it.
  11. Mulberry in the states here are pretty popular as a shrimp food. My shrimp tear into them as soon as placed in the tank. I've done dried and fresh. Dried almost always gets attacked first, but fresh may sit for a little bit and then shrimp attack it. Either way, an awesome food.
  12. Sorry to hear that- especially since it was your only fem in there. Good luck with the transfer.
  13. Hmmm..I've been adding a pinch a day to my 10g tanks. Do you guys think this is too much?

    ich

I got my new stock of leasts from a good buy. Apparently too good. I've been removing affected individuals from the tank off and on, and like it or not, I've come to the conclusion I should have quarantined the fish and made sure they weren't carrying anything first. I think ich is in my aquarium. Although they don't scratch, the occasional one has white sand spots. I don't want to use meds because I may use it for shrimp later, and have read that 85-86 degree water and 2-3Tbs of salt per gallon will take care of it also. I have a bare bottom tank. How many degrees should I safely raise the temp per day for the fish?
  16. I think Taylor or Oblong just had some breed for them not too long ago. May want to hit them up. I have some, but not gotten around to breeding them yet.
  17. I figured I'd hit here before buying from Amazon. Does anyone have a Coralife Aqualight Ballast, 1X65W, Model: SPL-165R-JS ? And for how much? I can also do partial or full shrimp trade.
  18. Remind me to get a really small leash next time!
