  1. Nope. Mammals inbreeding can be bad. In inverts, inbreeding for even 10 generations have shown no ill results.
  2. Anyone recommend neo foods without astaxanthin? I prefer pellets.
  3. Priority mail cost changes according to weight. Flat rate is the same. I use paypal to print out labels. For me it is a lot better than trying to fight the USPS site.
  4. Got my Sample yesterday, and am trying it on my various shrimp today. Results: Malawa went nuts over it. Marmorkrebs snatched it right away. 1/5 CRS shrimp came out of hiding for it, then had to suck it out via airline because of lost interest. 0/3 tanks of different types of cherries went for it. So no luck with my cherries and crs taking it, but yes on Malawa and marmokrebs.
  5. DETA, I keep coming back to phase 22 myself in my head.
  6. Wow. Seriously indeed! ...but you know, that raises the quality of aqua keeping quite a bit. What I don't understand is that they have laws like that, and yet in some parts selling turtles or salamanders, etc heat sealed in a key chain until they die is okay. *shrugs* I think it's a cultural thang.
  7. This is the grading system I use: http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum/showthread.php/74217-Grading-system-of-Cherry-to-Fire-Red-Shrimps
  8. So for me, fire red means a solid red, but I can see through them to the saddle. PFR means the color is so opaque, I can't see through. I could be wrong, and it may be the angle of the pics, but they look pfr to me. Especially with the legs colored like that. MABJ is absolutely correct in that names of reds give a good idea, but everyone has different opinions. That's why when I start selling my reds, I'm just having "Red Cherries," price, and showing a pic. People can decide what they want from that.
  9. I bought a cannister earlier this year for them. Would have to get other stuff as I can. The biggest challenge I have is temperature in this fish room. During much of the year it is 80+, then it drops to 50's. Everybody told me that the CRS wouldn't do well in the heat, but now I have CRS that have grown up in 80+ temps and berried. Perhaps no bad bacteria because I have only fed snowflake. (?)
  10. Color blind are ya, Chris? Sure countryboy. Just buy me that 1000g tank.
  11. "CRS at least, if you want to enhance the white you can breed them with snow white shrimp from what i understand. Does the same apply to TBs when it comes to enhancing color?" You would wind up with mischling "If i wanted to strip coloring, can i breed a TB with a crystal white?" Yes. That would give more opportunity for Blue Jelly or Green Hulk "Or more interestingly can i influence a TBs color to be more red by breeding it with a red shrimp like red KK or red CRS?" Again, to my understanding yes.
  12. Welcome lab! Great to have you with us!
  13. Awesome raok! I'm sitting this one out, but good luck to everyone!
  14. yepper. We use that term relaxed and generically here, but it caused a huge argument/uproar overseas when two breeders came out with the same type of coloration with two different names at the same time. Another argument was to breed it all red, or have a thin white stripe on the back and face. They take shrimp VERY seriously overseas.
  15. So far, so good. As with anything new, takes a while to catch on- but a sponsor loses almost nothing considering other forums require you to pay as a sponsor.
  16. All depends on the situation. Sometimes if I don't have any berries in a tank for a while, I'll induce with cooler water change- but whenever you induce a molt- always risky. If they are not ready, you may lose your shrimp.
  17. In my own home, I don't drip because params/temp is pretty much the same. Plus, it's fast. Boom boom. Stressful, but for few seconds. In my own theory, I think with shipping it weakens any shrimp with prolonged stress, and that's why we try to take time to make it less stressful for acclimation. Too much stress, and you can lose the shrimp.
  18. nice... I may try these boxes for winter shipping, come to think of it- knowing the track record of the USPS last year...
  19. I think the male TB carry the pattern/coloring. Don't let Chris see this thread. He'll droll on computer screen! LOL
  20. Black discus. Gotta follow this thread!
  21. "Also on a side note did I miss something is this forum for sale or some thing?" Nope. And we're hoping it won't be for a long long long time. heh
  22. 5 basic types of "common" snails that come on plants. Ramshorn Mini Ramshorn (tiny snails with shells flat on glass) Limpets (look like tiny white half clam shells on glass) Pond and Bladder Different views are held on these snails. Some people don't like snails. Too unsightly, "dirty" etc. Others like snails. They compact and clean up waste and food, clean algae (ramshorns) on glass and plants, and their "slime" is eaten as food by young shrimp. Some see them as a sign of a healthy environment. It really just depends what camp you fall into.
