  1. Too expensive. The American public has a mental price limit when it comes to shrimp atm. ($5 vs $500) We're still in the "cheap" mode instead of paying for quality. We ARE slowly turning around so there is hope. Oh, check this out for a tip for breeding some nice TiBs: http://shrimpkeeping.com/advanced-breeding-in-a-nutshell/
  2. I agree, however lots of people like to be involved in the "game" once strains are already created. Look at how the crystal shrimp took off once S came about to try to create SS and SSS. On the other hand, perhaps if paracaridina was offered more frequently, more people would be involved with them
  3. My feeling is because people haven't bred vars of them yet. Once vars are available, their popularity will increase big time. Takes someone special with a sense of risk to try to make strains. A lot of thanklessness to it, and almost no glory. But personal reward is there. I swear I remember reading that it took 7 years to breed the original color of red cherry shrimp. I sure appreciate the person who did it. However his name is all but erased from history. He's basically unknown for all the work he did. IMO He should be immortal in the shrimp world, but instead- everyone was just concerned with his creation.
  4. Nice! Too much work for me to do, so I admire you on that!
  5. Perhaps. I thought it was mineral oil, but I suppose it could have been neem oil? One can't propagate African violets? I'd not read that. Is it only certain kinds?
  6. How do you start african violets? from cuttings? My father always liked them, but I never paid much interest as a kid. He used to rub oil into each leaf to make them shine. Now that he's gone, and I'd like to know some info- he's not around to share it....so....I'd appreciate info.
  7. It's always trial and error. When I first started shrimping I went through 9 tanks of shrimp before I finally started to understand how to keep them. And those were neos. :-/
  8. I can pick one up for around $35-40, but would like to save some money if possible. Does anyone have a 30" (20L) hood they're not using? I can trade shrimp or do cash. Please pm me. Thanks!
  9. So next one in October? Dang! Too far in time for me.
  10. Anyone know when teh next gallon sale is at Petco? I was just over at Petsmart and they want $32 for a 20L and $90 for a 40g. For that money I'd rather get something larger or save money altogether.
  11. I've had problems when I was using a 2.5g for them to breed in. I think they just felt too cramped. BUT I didn't have a larger volume of water pumped in like a Marina would have.
  12. That sounds so good! But I have to have cream and sugar...lots of sugar. LOL
  13. I keep saying that I want to try a Marina for selective breeding because I'm just about out of room. Really gotta try that...
  14. Then you may like what I like: Twice the caffeine, baby!
  15. I appreciate you adding the pics under the names. Thank you.
  16. Just pm me a price when you are ready and I'll look around and see if it's reasonable. Coolish?
  17. ...and I keep a few shrimp women in tanks.
  18. Looks variegated. Very very cool. Some variegates will have all white leaf "babies." Problem is (so I read) if you don't leave them attached to some green leaves, they can't produce chlorophyll and die. I'm thinking there has to be some way to give them plant food though, to create entire white plants that are healthy.
