  1. Thy do look like some type of card. What is your ph?
  2. Just got a reply back today: "Thank you for contacting the Prakash Lab about Foldscope. We are thrilled that you have signed up for 10K microscope project with the goal for helping us write a crowd-sourced microscopy resource for bringing the passion for microscopy to everyone. We consider this as an incredible community and hope to learn from each other." I had to fill out another form for beta testing, and they should contact me in a a few months. The stipulation is that I include some photos for their manual of diseases in fish/shrimp.
  3. I don't think I've seen them with OE, but if the genes and modifiers combine correctly, in theory it is possible.
  4. Yepper. A couple things to keep in mind with tap. 1) It usually is not consistent throughout the year, and 2) tap differ from location to location.
  5. You are in Miami, so your "wintertime" is also shorter. Same with California.
  6. I don't use IAL in mine, but I know a number of people who do. *shrugs* Different strokes for different folks.
  7. You did the right thang. Gh is good, and the shrimp look much better. Next thing to figure out for fun is TDS.
  8. Check this out: http://www.shapeways.com/
  9. yeah, I've always been nervous to try it myself as well.
  10. gh of 6+, and added kh is recommended or neos, whereas cards welcome no/low kh and a lower gh. They can be done together, but it is recommended to do params for cards and adapt the neos.
  11. The answer depends on many things. How established your tank is, how many plants/decor, temperature, size of colony, type of shrimp, and other thangs. To just say X amount doesn't give an accurate answer, so we use a very general statement like- as much as they can eat in 1-3 hrs. Then, you make your own adjustments from there according to your tank. Make sense?
  12. Did you cut the glass yourself?
  13. Thanks or the pics.A very interesting concept that I could see going well with a planted tank.
  14. Oblongshrimp sells his for 2.50 ea. He may be sold out right now though. You can always contact him and see if he'd be willing to put you on a list.
  15. Looking fem to me, too. Time will tell though
  16. That's part of the social interaction I enjoy, my friend. I come to the forum to learn and share.
  17. Dorky question, but do you have a pic of it in action?
  18. I've not heard great things with keeping shrimp in those long term, however short term it works well (so I hear) for placing a valued male and female together. The goal here to berry the fem. Once berried you remove the male and have two options. 1) release the shrimplets into the breeder box, or 2) release the fem and have her release the shrimplets into the tank. Both have pros and cons. However I think once she berries up, the best bet for survival of shrimplets and better care would be to release the fem into the tank. I'm rapidly running out of space and may have to start doing this method myself, so I am following other threads on this as I speak. --- These are simple ways to selectively breed. There are much more complicated ways such as doing multiple pairings, 1 male to multiple fems per tank, writing down shrimplet counts and results, and following family lines. However that takes lots of time and money and space. Keep it simple, keep it fun, and keep it a hobby that is relaxing. IMHO that is the way to be successful.
  19. LOL I think I'll stick to just giving the odd answer here and there. Thanks.
  20. And siliconed into place? Ingenious!
  21. Please do post pics when you have a chance, my friend. Sounds like a great rig-up!
  22. Will may be able to answer that one. Oblong? you here?
