  1. Unfortunately it will only get worse.  I'm an oldish guy, so when I was growing up neighbors looked out for the kids and called each other if something was going on.

Now, nobody looks out, parents expect the schools to teach ethics/morals- the schools expect parents to teach it and so nobody gets taught anything about that.  The kids of those "ignorant" kids are now being raised and...as said...it will only get worse...

  2. Unfortunately, getting neo shrimp from overseas is not that uncommon to have this parasite.  They have massive breeding tanks and just net as they need them.

For crystals, they are much more picky about slective breeding, etc.

It's too bad really, because I really have a love for neos and wish they would work more on health and selectively breeding those for different vars.  Unfortunately, it's up to hobbiests like us to make up for the lack of interest there with neos.

  3. Sounds like Vorticella- a parasite.  Sometimes it does go away with molts, but the challenge you have is that you have to remove that molt ASAP or it will reinfect shrimp.

Try a strong salt dip: 2 tablespoons of aquarium salt in a cup of water. 30 seconds in the dip, rinse in fresh water

Often this does the trick.  Sometimes a 2nd dip is needed, but the dip seems to work pretty well.

  4. People have already mentioned CO2 and fert dangers.  Some people are able to handle it pretty well, most people do not find a good balance.  It seems that you made up your mind on that, so I hope you are one of the few that do. :)

Cherries are one of the hardiest of the shrimp world.  They can handle pretty drastic changes.  I only water change between 10-20% at a time because shrimp in general like stable params and not too much stress.  But, everyone has their own routine.

TDS meter is not needed for cherries, but recommended.  It is helpful sometimes for troubleshooting.  Do you have other tests for water params?

  5. What are the dots beneath our names?  I'm guessing it has to do with so many posts, no?

I was part of another forum where X number of posts gave a rank.  In that case a Christmas forum:

Do we want to do the same?
