  1. For a cheap Ro unit http://www.purewaterclub.com Lots of people just use bottled jugs of Ro or distilled water from the local grocery store as well.
  2. I'm pretty sure they meant shrimp.
  3. I wish I knew why, repsa. Some people have tap that works great for their shrimp. Unfortunately, in my tap must be bad things. I run it through a RO unit and everything is fine after that. Go figure.
  4. The upside of small tanks is they don't take up as much space. The downside is if something goes wrong, it happens much faster than in a larger body of water. Tap water varies from location to location, so while some people may do well with tap, others don't. When I used tap, my neos would grow sick and die. When I switched to RO, they took off. Some people are able to get away with rarely doing wc as mentioned, although I'm confused why repsa would top off with tap water of 14 gh, 13 kh and never do any wc? When the water evaporates, the minerals are still left behind, so each time tap is added for evaporation, more and more gh, kh and TDS is added. Repsa does bring up some good points about wc being done quickly can be problematic though. Also about temperature swings being dangerous.
  5. You mean gh/kh for neos, right Oblong?
  6. Selective breeding. Trying to find the best coverage you can, breed those, keep the ones that look best, and breed again.
  7. M6 looks like a male. Is the other male as well?
  8. Many people are breeding BV, but not many people are trying for nice coverage of Snow White Crystals. That may help you decide to go one way or the other.
  9. Welcome! Glad to see you relapsed. LOL Tell me, why the heater?
  10. Maybe the difference is the shrimp pick off particles, whereas in a non shrimp tank inhabitants don't?
  11. That's what I'm hearing. Kinda like dogs of the lizard world. heh
  12. Cool, right? When I saw it I immediately thought animal housing!
  13. Tell her they are the kids' new toys.
  14. LOL You know it will happen to both of us! I'm following your thread closely, dude!
  15. This is what I'm planning on getting for housing: Available at home depot, each Rubbermaid container with fold out window is around $17 ea. You can stack them on top of one another for an instant rack.
  16. Nice thing about gargs is that they are not as well known as other geckos, but still have exciting possibilities. Their care is very similar to Cresteds. Leave it to me to find a lizard that is polygenic in coloring, but that just means I'll have to work the bell curve again with selective breeding. Gargs are more filled out in the body than Cresteds, but still have the sweet calm personality. Hopefully next week after the last meet is over, I can get started on a cage.
  17. Well, I've made up my mind to get prepared for Gargoyles as my first geckos. Man, was this a long decision! First I thought Leos, but didn't want to deal with the temperature issues or mealworms yet. Since Gargs can be fed commercial food, and regular house temp is fine, I figure that is a good starting place for me.
  18. Well, true to form I'm switching my focus atm to Gargoyl Geckos. LOL I like leos too, but the more I read, the more I realize Gargs can be fed commercial food- and while I learn to keep/breed them, I won't have to deal with temperatures or mealworm raising yet. Okay, new thread coming...Gargoyls!
  19. I say go for it. Whatever you learn only helps you in the future.
  20. Wygglz, I'm laughing because after I read the article I immediately thought the same thing!
