  1. Thanks for posting this. I'll probably have to get one later in the year.
  2. I keep neos in the range of 6-10 gh. Alphapro keeps their rilis in gh of 22 and they are breeding fine. Neos, in general, are very forgiving. I've also found my neos breed better in TDS of 300 or so. *shrugs* Different strokes for different folks. Large tanks means better water parameter stability. Many professional breeders will have tanks 20L or even larger for a starter colony of 5-10 expensive shrimp for optimal quality and breeding. They'll find each other.
  3. Kenyan Sand boas have some awesome genetics too. Do you breed them? You probibly already know this info on them, but here's a great page on ksb morphs https://reptile-collective.myshopify.com/blogs/news/15508596-kenyan-sand-boas and about breeding them: http://www.reptilesmagazine.com/Reptile-Magazines/Reptiles-Magazine/January-2011/African-Treasure/ You can tell I've thought about them before.LOL
  4. It all boils down to type of plant, type of box, and insulation.
  5. I have some green dragon lf now. The male and female bred almost immediately, but the fem died as I was learning how to keep them. Now I have to wait until the fry get older to sex them and keep a fem. They're roughly an inch now.
  6. Congrats, dude! I know you'll do a great job!
  7. Not a bad experiment. I'll be interested in the results. Have you thought about bumping your pH up to 7+?
  8. They're used to it. That's why you want to do it slowly with cards.
  9. Lower with pure Ro, with the safest not more than 40 TDS at a time.
  10. I see what you are talking about. I personally think astax could be doing it, but you also have to rule out water parameters.
  11. I like skeletons quite a bit. You don't see them too often.
  12. Does the horizontal white one have a clear midsection? If so, that snow is called "skeleton."
  13. I want to help, man. I'll take the 2 Nutrifin African Cichlid remineralizers, and the EdgeOmni Pro.
  14. This is a great deal for whomever needs it guys! I've seen just the Praxair 212 dual stage regulator sell for $350+ alone.
  15. Welcome! Bigbluefrog is a member here and keeps reptiles as well, I believe. I used to have some reptiles myself. Eastern hognose, african house snakes, rat snakes, and my favorites were corns along with others. Shrimp keeping is a very addictive, and a bit different than breeding for genetics. With caridina shrimp, there is some genetics. With neocaridina shrimp you tend to work with a bell curve and breed a var or mutation that tends to pop up. Lots of shrimp to learn about, lots of stunning colors and varieties to appreciate. We're glad you are here!
  16. I like that many of us have an appreciation for all types of animals.
  17. Hi Maurice. Do you have a pic of your red color now? For scientific reasons I would love to see it.. Some years back I did a research study on the effects of astaxanthin on yellow neos. The end result was the astax turned the yellows into a brown streaky mess. For this reason I made the personal decision not to use any astax in any foods for any of my neos. Keep in mind, I only did the experiment on yellows, but it would not surprise me in the least if it has some negative effects on other neo colors as well. In fact, I have been waiting for a thread like this to pop up for years! I would love to see what your reds look like now after astax use. And for how long have you been using it?
  18. I mean no disrespect Louie, so please don't take this that way. Are you sure those rili/lines aren't neos? The neos tend to get racing stripes on the back, and can look just like that rili. An indicator, for instance, is if you look closely on the cheek of the rili, it is not filled in. This is a common problem with neo rilis, so we often cross rili with fire or pfr to close the "ear hole." Other indicators are full red shrimp in the background. CRS won't be full red. Even low grades or super reds have some white on them. The white ones are cards though.
  19. They can be hunted your way? Last I heard they can't be hunted around IL, MI area.
  20. I just wet the bottom end of a bamboo skewer, stick it in the powder, then swirl the stick in the tank. Easy peasy.
  21. Technically if it breeds true, it is no longer a hybrid. I still consider them a pretty hybrid though. Heh
  22. You can always go up to the mountains and back. Lol. I'm stuck in the cold for months.
