  1. Glad it might help. I have removed all plants, and I am going to just, let grow, let it grow, let it grow the algae is growing anyway. Bad Disney reference Leaving lights one, and seeing what it looks like. I hope to have some very happy shrimp Going to start the control soil tank soon, with the same method, but no plants until after cycle
  2. Wow maybe I am on the correct track. I think I am more confused than ever. I am definitely heading towards what is shown in the 3rd video. If they only added shrimp to get to the 4th video, then after some time, they get to the 2nd video, I would be very happy The first video seems a little more than what I am ready to try . I might look into that more but looks scary at first
  3. The ammonia should come from the ADA soil. I was trying this method, but think I should not have added the plants. They leave the lights gets on for 3 weeks. http://youtu.be/ksBkBTzUXMg
  4. Thanks, I think I will keep the water and try the reduced light and remove the plants, we shall see what happens to the algae
  5. Thanks, I was trying the MK-Breed method of starting an new tank, and they leave the lights on for 3 weeks. I think my problem was adding plants too soon. I am going to cut back the lights, and remove the plants and see if that helps http://youtu.be/ksBkBTzUXMg
  6. Nice job on your spec. Post some pictures in this thread of yours, please.
  7. Well... I might have messed this one up I added a few moss balls and a Java Matt, and now I have algae all over. I have been keeping the lights on 24/7, and no other additives. I did top off with RO/DI water today. I will try and dial the full light and see if the nasty stuff will go away. I am about 1 week and 2 days in. I did not bother testing as I will wait 4+ weeks regardless. I also have another 20 gallon long setup this weekend, doing the same setup up but with Controlsoil, and MK-Breed and not plants
  8. Lol. Good point. I need to go back and red more elementary school books
  9. I just moved to a place that has a Costco. Do you remember the model number or name. I could use one for the new place
  10. Thank You and the B&B is a very tough thing that we are trying to decide what to do with. We are keeping the farm and land and fish ponds across from the B&B, but not sure yet what are plans are with the B&B, it is such a nice place right on the river in a picturesque valley in the mountains
  11. Thanks, I am always open to suggestions, ideas and experience of others. I have them drilled up on the top back walls. I actually do not plan on drilling any more. I hate it. I have gone through so many different filter types, that I am back to the sponge filters for everything. They just work better for me. Granted water changes are not as convenient but over all the fish and shrimp and plants are just healthier

    Random Shrimp

Just having fun with some pictures
  13. Update time..... Since I started my tank rack, and got everything all set, I now have a new job and had to move to Indianapolis. I am streamlining my Koi and Goldfish, and starting my shrimp tanks over. Here are a few pics of Tank number one in Indianapolis
  14. I also am enjoying this topic, and I might try the east cost distribution for ADA, thank you. I have been selling Goldfish and Koi for a very long time. I have seen first hand how many over seas fish breeders have converted to shrimp from Goldfish. I do like the standard same price or fixed price for hard goods. It keeps the playing field even, and relies more on customer service and building good realtionships. I currently have serveral thousands of dollars of Fluval, and Laguna products at my shop. I can not move these items due to Amazon and Dr. Smith and Fosters. They have regular sales and discounts that are below wholesale prices. I have fluval LED lights that I have paid 85.00 each for (before shipping), and you can go to Amazon and buy them for 79.00 with free shipping. Customer Service and Knowledgment of products are no longer a very large factor for sales. Today the manufacturer and breeders are selling more and more direct to customers and or Amazon. Most Koi and Goldfish breeders now sell direct to customers, just as most manufacturers sell direct to Amazon and they do not worry any longer if a shop owner or retail is representing the products well, or helping to promote the their products Please understand, I buy a lot of items from Amazon and It's just the way business is moving now, not complaining but just pointing things out. I have no issues with the new economy, but I do enjoy buying unique items straight from hobbiest and small business owners, but those are only for very small niche products or services. And just for the record, I have to have my "real" or daytime job just to afford my Goldfish, Koi, Pond, and Shrimp Job. I honestly do not think one could make a living selling Goldfish, Koi, or Shrimp full time in the US
  15. I am working with them to try and start carrying ADA products. For the US, it all is from ADA San Fran. The price is set and fixed. Not a lot of wiggle room either. The real problem is shipping it from San Fran to the east cost, that eats up any hope for better pricing from a retailer on the east cost
  16. Just called them, they said they had a lot in stock. I might try and head that way after I get out in the next day or two
  17. Just left them, and eating at Chipotle around the corner. They had very nice tanks, but nothing really for live plants. They did have some shrimp that looked nice, but not too many options
  18. I was thinking of doing that. I have talked to them several times on the phone trying to be a dealer. They are not very responsive, maybe a personal visit will help
