The guy I got the Cherries from said these were his culls. I couldn't believe it when I saw them for the first time.

I didn't want Cherries at all, but after much reading and thinking about it, I thought I should try them first. I'm glad I did. They are very beautiful and some have different shades of red.

The kickstarter is live! Within the first 13 hours, they've already raised $9,000. If you can pledge/want to invest in one, consider supporting it!

Hi Everyone, I chose the Blue Velvets. Yes, I already have some but I wanted to bring in some fresh DNA to strengthen my strain. I go them today and they are gorgeous!

Low Grade Carbons- 4.95 ea. (The top shrimp in the photo is a low grade.)

While selectively breeding to improve my carbon strain, some low carbons are produced along the way. These are often blue with flecks of darker blue on them. Very pretty, but don't fit into my breeding program.

Least Killifish (Heterandria formosa) $1.95 ea.

North America's smallest fish, and one of the smallest fish in the world! These were bred from wild caught and now I'm on the 3rd to 4th generation of tank bred. No more need to take from the wild for these Fish, and used to tank conditions! Males get to be around 3/4", and females around 1". Live bearers and very hardy! Selling these around 1/2" or so.

Shipping is a flat $10 and covers priority insulated box, and breather bags. If you need a heat pack, please let me know. I usually ship on Saturdays for best chance of live arrival.

mosspearl reacted to ravensgate in Need shrimp food testers please!
I need some food testers for a new line.  PLEASE realize you will have some homework so this isn't just a 'free food' post, otherwise you may be subjected to a lifetime of dirty looks from me on the internet.

I am developing 3 lines of food.  A 'complete/staple diet', an immune enhancing diet, and a protein/growth/breeding diet for all freshwater dwarf shrimp.  Mind you, these have been/will be tested on tibees, OEBT, amanos, neos, CBS, CRS, Goldens, Taiwans and I think that's all I have.    so it will be tested on a lot before it leaves my house:)   The consistency issue I'm working on...I did the immune batch and the consistency is crap.  But with the staple diet I have the consistency figured out.  I've never had my shrimp lose their minds over anything like they have this 'staple' diet.  I have not created the Protein diet yet...have the recipe it's just a matter of getting off my butt to make it (which I dread...it's kind of a pain).  At any rate, ingredients are all organic and safe, tested on my tanks FIRST.   The 'homework' I need is the basics

*** How soon do shrimp find food (yeah, I'd LOVE a timer involved)

*** YOU the buyer/owners thoughts on look/consistency though my immune forumla consistency sucks...didn't have the right method but I promise your shrimp won't care:)

** Any additional info like molt rate, breeding rate, color, etc.  There are no color enhancers in this food (*spirulina/axastanthin) just all natural goodies.

What I need from you is name and address in a private message:).  It may be another 1-2 weeks before I get the protein formula done so in 2-3 weeks you'll have a sample of all 3 to test.  Please help me develop awesome shrimp foods. Local and good price!!!

Thanks folks.  I don't breed in super large quantities, so I tend to offer different types at different times.  I do have a waiting list though.

I'm of the mind that I'd rather be respected for my selective breeding than make tons of money,

One day I would love to have a selective breeding aquafarm.  Now THERE's a dream!

Depends.  Are you keeping the best to breed from?  Then I'd call ya a selective breeder.

Only by keeping the best does your stock quality improve, and you have better stock to offer.

I read once of a guy who had decided to make his own guppy strain of delta tails.  He started with wild guppies and every 3 months he would cull the ones that didn't make the cut.  Using only one tank, he made his goal in 3 years.  Could he have done it sooner if he separated the fish and did careful selecting, etc?  Sure.  But his goal was to relax and to produce healthy fish that had the trait.  He had a goal and had fun doing it.  THAT'S what selective breeding is all about.  Having fun striving for your goal.  THAT is a kind of success in itself.

I admit I love bettas... my boy is spoiled with his 6.6 gallon tank all to himself. He's gorgeous and full of personality. But it's hard to devote that much space to one critter when that same tank will hold a boatload of shrimp or several tiny fish. Sigh. When his time is up I probably won't replace him with another betta, though I wish I could save all of them at the fish store.

Welcome! Where do you keep all those fish if you're breeding them all? I know bettas take a zillion little containers as the grow...

I have my eye on branching out my selective breeding hobby into even more aquatic animals, but first I have to keep maintaining what I have. Oh, the insanity of keeping up and maintaining it all!

Oh, by the way, I gotta work on my pic taking, but at least you know I don't artificially color my pictures. LOL Well, here we go!

All shrimp kept in RO/Salty Shrimp, TDS 300+, PH 7+

    Orange Sakura- $2.95 ea.

Are there genetic difference between these and pumpkins? Some say yes, some say no. Supposedly the two (pumpkins vs orange sakura) were developed separately by separate breeders, but the name has been used so interchangeably, who knows anymore? I *just* started selectively breeding these.

BV (Bred with DBV culls)- 3.95 ea.

A back story about these. I've selectively bred over the years for darker blues for my DBV strain. Earlier this year, I decided to go for a darker shade yet and culled my DBVs into my BV tanks. Imagine my surprise when my BVs started having babies of darker colors by breeding with the DBV culls! Now my BV tanks range from BV to medium DBVs to DBVs! They ALL have the modifiers now to differing degrees! Babies start with red, then the BV mutation makes it fade away leaving the beautiful blue body color by roughly juvie stage. Very pretty. I don't think I even need to say this, but just to appease some people: BV shrimp will be selected randomly, so please don't ask for certain shades.

    Schoko (Chocolate) Shrimp- 2.95 ea.

Stock imported from Germany. The past few years I've selective bred to reduce culls and breed a consistent dark color. Over the past year I've seen no cherries thrown, and about half a dozen blonds. I have had maybe 2-3 blues thrown, so that is in the genetics- although rare.

    Malawa Shrimp- 1.95 ea

***The Malawa Shrimp are NOT known to crossbreed with ANY other shrimp!*** Pic is of Malawa on a 12" leaf.  Often they have tiger stripes, and colors can range from reddish-brown, greyish-black, blue, to greenish-clear. [Please don't ask for specific colors since they all have the same genetics.] Keep in mind, to my knowledge no one has bred a color strain of these yet, so the opportunity is there.

    Marmorkrebs (Marble Crayfish) 2.50 ea.

The only known self cloning crayfish. Neat pet for keeping in a hardscape tank by themselves. When mature these are perfect for producing food for feeding fish/turtles/Axolotls, etc. These are nearing 1/2" in size and can reach 3-5" at maturity. They are opportunistic feeders so will eat flake, pellets, plants, just about anything you decide to feed them. Easy peazy.

Shipping is a flat $10 and covers priority insulated box, and breather bags. If you need a heat pack, please let me know. I can ship Tues Nov 12 or Saturdays starting Nov 16th.
