Shrimp lady got a reaction from svetilda in Fluval Spec shrimp proofing
Is this the Fluval spec III ?did you get it used? good score! did it come with the sponge set (bio-kit) for the filter box area on the left side in the back area?? If not U can purchase this at any Petco store. It is a great little tank too. I will admit I do have problems with the tiny shrimplets getting back in there through the top "intake" slits and end up in the void area where the pump runs though. I have added a 25 watt heater in this same area as well. I just wait for the little one's to come up near the top and suck them up with a plastic turkey baster and put them back in the main tank. I will add a fine sponge piece I have that came from filter replacement sponges for those nano HOB filters though. As for numbers in a tank of this size, I have had upwards of 130+ Red rili's of all sizes with NO problems but man that's alot of shrimp for this little tank! Don't get me wrong this is a little shrimp factory and does really well for its size and are finding it out produces compared to any other bigger sized tank setups I have for shrimp! I the last 2 months I have sold 75+ shrimp (six dozen) from this very Spec III!
I still see at least 40+ going strong in there at feeding time with a least 4 berried females at any one time, like I said a shrimp factory! I started with 10 shrimp 1.5 years ago too.
Please post a pic your nice score here! It does not have to be set up yet either. I also need to warn you reguarding the pumps output volume too...

These snails are like "Canaries" in the Coalmine. They will help gauge your calcium levels, clean up any uneaten foods, move the substraight around, and they sell well here in my Aqua club. I like em''

Yah,, you are the one that made me aware of adding in new shrimp to an existing setup. I know not to with fish, but never thought about it for shrimp!!!
I need to ask a key question here though reguarding you drop-off of numbers in your shrimp... What species are they, and do you keep any fish in with these?

Shrimp lady got a reaction from Louie in My new nano bowfront...
    I just came across this 4.5 gallon glass bow front tank that was about to be tossed. It was at one of the LFS I visit on occasion near the back door. I asked about it and was given permission to just get it out of there!!! Here's a pic;
I plan on de-rimming it and having a custom plexi-glass top made for it and of course make a shrimp tank out this D.I.Y. project. I searched for a silmilar tank/size but cannot find anything even close. It looks like a much smaller version of a 16 gallon bow front made by the All-glass aquarium company.

Shrimp lady reacted to etcamire04 in Bacteria Infection
From what I've read, bacterial infection are most likely due to insufficient tank cleaning. Two years ago, I had an issue in the tank with my mischlings and I think it was due to the cleaning of the tank. I was doing the same thing as for my smaller tank.

The way I've treated my shrimp was with hydrogen peroxide. This one sounds hardcore, but in my opinion it's not worst than most chemical products. In fact, it's the same thing that you put on your wounds to clean them. I used 3% hydrogen peroxide (the one you buy at the drugstore) and dosed 1 to 3mL par tank gallon/day. I've started with 1mL and increased to 3mL because I wanted effects. Hydrogen peroxide will break fast into water and oxygen so I don't feel it to be much dangerous. Important thing : you need to do water change every 2-3 days. In the bottle, there is a stabilizer to avoid the product to break before use. You don't want this stabilizer to accumulates in your tank. If it's the case, hydrogen peroxide won't break and may accumulate.

Doing this way, I've stop the infection without anymore deaths and the shrimps showing early symptoms healed.

Shrimps getting cloudy are the most severely injured. The cloudy shows muscular necrosis than may not heal.

He has more so I will stop by again and pick up a few for looker tank, and of course ORE Blueberries.
Yah your right, I could try to breed them as I use to deal with Trinidad "wild: live bearers that needed salinity specific of 1.003 S.G.  Believe it or not, these are only $2.99 each! Thanks fore the heads up!
I do hope the Zebra shrimp make it here soon and someone has breeding success too!

    They are pretty, aren't they?

The Ninjas used to be popular as one of the first shrimp in the hobby.  Unfortunately they require saltwater to breed and are low order shrimp, so they hatch out larvae which are very hard to feed and slowly introduce to freshwater.  That's why the cards and neos took over.  They could breed miniature versions of themselves in freshwater.

Consider yourself blessed.   Ninjas are very hard to find in the US now, if you can find them at all.

I was alerted to this new shrimp from RevolutionHope.  A big thank you!  It is only by folks sharing knowledge that we learn.  We all have to help each other.

A new shrimp has been found in Australia that has parameters that leaves me in amazement.

    A photo from http://www.aquagreen.com.au/plant_data/Caridina_zebra.html:

Looks a lot like our crystals or caridina sulawesi, right?

    But listen to these params!

    Temp low 70's
PH 7- 7.5ish (Has been known to live in 6,5 as well.)
    KH 0
    GH 0
    TDS <20

Folks, you could pretty much pour out a jug of RO and have them live right in the water with no remin and no buffering substrate!

Is this the next new shrimp?

REALLY? Where do I get more asI really love these and they're really cool!!! How may types of varieties are there?
So I looked these up and they are a very hardy, wild caught shrimp with a broader water parameter with a most interesting behavior. So far it's settling in nicely to my we;; water, great.. Now I'm on the hunt for a few friends!!
Thanks Soothing shrimp for the I'D. but you have to  admit it does look very close to the Zebra's but with a white tail band though....

Would probably suggest skipping the LFS and find a decent strain here, most have breed homegrown strains hardy and pure. Hard to tell where the LFS got them from and how much you'll pay at retail.Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

I looked at your pics and boy that's a nice, simple shrimp biotope you have there. I LOVE these and have never really been a huge fan of cherry's either.
I will give my 6 super reds another look as I really are not sure what I have and got them in a shrimp grab bag I traded for plants to a club member. He didn't have a preference for which was which. I got 25 mixed colored neo's(velevets, bright red cherries & rili's for plants can't beat that.
