Brolly33 got a reaction from svetilda in Japanese/Taiwan Setup's
For me, tank philosophy depends on your goals. For me, the top goal is to keep both shrimp and plants healthy and thriving. It's the balance of fertilizing the plants vs best fertility of shrimp. They seem to be contrary goals to me, which brings the fun of balancing. I like the ecosystem.
Others are building a breed (or several).
Others want the most beautiful environment in their tanks.
Others are trying to maximize baby quality, output and health to make profit.
Sparse tanks makes for easier culling but less tank beauty.

I know it's been a while. But I felt I had to post a pic of my rack since I just added the last 3 tanks tonight. It's finally complete.[emoji4]

So far these are all project tanks! [emoji1]I got room for 4 more. I decided to go with all 10g tanks. -
Brolly33 reacted to mayphly in Mayphly's New Shrimp Rack
Today I finally got around to cleaning out the garage and set up a spot for a new shrimp rack. My goal will be to set up 20 10g tanks on it. I already have an elemental 1744 gph which I'll use to replace my smaller elemental pump. This should be big enough to run 30-40 tanks. I curently have 12 tanks running at the moment in just the garage. Another big plus is that my RO unit is within 5 ft which is hooked up to a wash basin and dumps into 2 20g storage containers. I'll be able to install an auto top off. I'll be using led's. I'm not sure if I want to go with cheap strip lighting or fixtures. I'm already thinking about adding 2x4's under the shelves for added support and I'll be able to mount the lights to these as well. Here's the rack I went with

Brolly33 reacted to Aennedry in OEBT culls
And of course after posting, I glance into my tank and what do I see? Two berried OEBT culls! I hope when I finally get my Bee tank set up they are going to be this easy. My TTs and Taiwan Fire Reds didn't even berry up this fast.

I would be happy with either color. I want blue shrimp , but I also wanted regular tigers. Was thinking of going with blue neo's but this way I can get my blue and blonds (regular tigers) without the cost of the high grade blue neo and then buying tigers. Here is a picture of my 5gal OEBT tank. They share with one tiger nerite.
And here is the mama-to-be. She has been a bit shy, but finally got a picture of her... The boys are a more intense blue, with Big Blue being a lovely blue velvet neo blue. I am hoping he is the daddy.

Its Discobee. thanks.
Thanks for sharing our awesome setup! This photo was approx 3 years ago. Out recent conversations with multiple breeders (some are members of this forum) were in the last few days. We discussed how the prices of shrimp have fallen so much in recent years, that they are using different methods for limiting their expenses.
We also no longer use this method because there are parts you dont see that take a long time to setup, break down, and just easier methods now. Now we use corner HMFs. We've noticed no advantage of one method over the other as far as shrimp health and production. its more about setup costs and ease of use especially for people with multiple systems or racks. We like to try every method so we have experience and can share our knowledge.

My pintos and Tbs are doing great I'm so happy I finally got a method that suites me and it's so simple and easy plus low matenienc. Also my tibees are exploding about to separate the TTs with the white backs into their own tank.

Brolly33 reacted to Mr. F in FS: Red Root Floaters
Got my RRFs! HUGE Portions. Healthy long roots, which are BRIGHT red and pink. Leaves just as pictured. So pretty.
They take a day or so to flatten out, so you have to try and train the leaves so they dont get wet, but they are cooperative- and BEAUTIFUL.
Just after I put them in and was still fussing with the leaves:
SHRIMP ATTACK!

Brolly33 got a reaction from Maurice in Maurice's shrimp rack
I love the islands of green. This balance between sparse and plants hits my personal aesthetic very well. I may have to steal this for my future rack.
Are the 120x45x30 custom built tanks or prebuilt with dividers added?
-
Brolly33 reacted to Maurice in Maurice's shrimp rack
Hi everybody!
I have been quiet lately as we moved house and life, but wanted to share my new rack.
The tanks are 120*45*30cm, divided in 4. The middle tanks will be replaced with the same as on the top and bottom shelve.
Top tank is still cycling and I will transfer all the CRS to this one, according to grade, S grade left, SS grade second left, SSS grade second right and TB in right tank
Same will happen with the middle tank, as with grading and then golden bees in the right side tank
Bottom is Neos, left are culls, second left are dreamy blues, second right are Taiwan Fire reds and normal tigers and then left are blue jelly.
I will update as I go along

I personally also like the look of not a lot of extra stuff in the tank, just a piece of wood and some moss, ferns or buces, the greenery of plants makes it also look more natural and the added benefit of removing nitrates and so on
This is my preferred way

Brolly33 got a reaction from EricM in Proper method to dose Bacter AE
My shrimp seem to love the BacterAE. I use a chopstick to scoop out a tiny bit and I put it right in front of the filter outflow about once a week. It seems to mix into the water pretty well that way. The bits that float, well the shrimp just swim upside down on the surface to gobble it up.
Wet toothpick? I would worry about fouling my supply with tank water, but I also cannot argue with success.

Brolly33 reacted to Mr. F in Looking for some clarification on all the different varieties of blue neocaridina shrimp.
Those breeding guides/tables are kinda silly. The tree you've probably seen is a better way of visualizing it. The lineage of the shrimp is most important in cross breeding; if the shrimp come from different wildtypes (WTs), they'll likely throw WT shrimp when interbred, because the genes for their pigmentation are on separate loci (positions on the genome), and therefore are not expressed. The tree below helps, although it does have some inaccuracies.
The most pertinent inaccuracies are:
Where you see it says "blue velvet," these are actually "blue dream." Where it says "blue dream/topaz" are sometimes called "fantasy blues" (I've also heard these AND blue dreams called "topaz," so not sure about that). Where it says "red rili blue" is your "BBRR" or "blue-bodied red rili" (or as you called it "blue rili," although this is a name usually given to carbon line rilis [blue carbon rilis]). "Blue velvet" should be in place of where it says "blue jelly/full blue rili." As I understand it, blue jellies is a phenotype of TB (Caridina cantonensis), where as above are all Neocaridina davidi, with the exception of N. palmata (blue pearls, etc). Blue jelly TB/tibee: So, you'll notice blue variations come from 3 of the 4 N. davidi WTs and also from N. palmata WT, along with the myriad blue caridina (TB and tiger) morphs, meaning there can be A LOT of confusing, mislabelled, misnamed shrimp out there.
But for the most part with neos, blue dreams, carbon rilis, blue carbon rili, etc are of the same carbon lineage. Blue velvet are from red lineage. Blue pearl are from palmata lineage.
And there is also Soothing's blue and green Nessie from a darker blue mutant arising from red lineage that I have had the chance to breed:
Sorry for the info-overload, but I hope it helps a little!
