The one on the side is used as a sex pen for my MK mosura male. Whenever I see a female(bkk, panda, or bb) that's ready to breed I throw her in there until she's berried and release back to the main tank a day or two afterwards. The one in the front is just there I'm not using it right now, will be for mosses though. Since im a full time S.T.E.M. college student I don't always have time to transfer/cull the males that I don't want, so I use the breeder box inside (the white box on the right) as a holding pen till I have time to transfer undesirable males. Babies also can get in and out of the white breeder box which is great because they don't have to compete for food in there (assuming no culls are in there).

    Two extremes!
I was going to pick up a new marco lens for my canon bit I figured it'd be best to buy a new low iron tank instead

Yes, I couldn't any black pvc pipes around my house so I just spray painted white pvc with a mat black coat. I removed the screws from my Finnex ray II and replaced it with a longer screw so I can hang it.

This was my only tank that I can keep my bucephalandras while I redo my other tanks. Hopefully these spoiled shrimps won't mind.

Sorry for the mess but here's the 21 gallon low iron tank. Cost a pretty penny but it was definitely worth it. This will be my first shrimp tank that will have a decent aquascape. I have a lot of ideas for this tank! I'll keep everyone posted!

In my opinion the main issue is the new water parameters in your new place. I mean moving shrimps is easy but putting them in a not-cycled tank is not good. So you'd better save a bit of your current tank water.

BlackBees. Photo taken this past weekend.

^ She is one of the many first-time moms for the 25Cube. Babies from the first brood have grown into adulthood and started breeding. I did a count of the numbers of BlackBees inside the 25Cube and came up with roughly 90.

The current center of my attention. She has the most beautiful motherly glow.  The light blue hue of her color is quite extortionary.

    What do you guys think?

Wow.  There's a name I haven't heard of in years. LOL  A dip tube folks is a piece of plastic/glass tube about 12-18" long.  You put your finger/thumb over it and insert it into the water over an area to be cleaned on the substrate.  Remove the finger, the water rushes in taking the dirt with it up the tube.

I don't think it's even available in the hobby much anymore with all the new fangled devices.  The advantage is it is small, self contained and uses no outside source like running water or electricity.

Big Blue Frog, your best bet would be to check sites selling vintage things.  Wait.... here's one from Ebay for ya.  Only has a day left though if you want it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-LONGLIFE-Aqua-Matic-Dip-Tube-Charcoal-Filter-Cartridges-/251858915916?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3aa3f6124c

This is the japanese one that ROn was talking about: it's callles the NISSO Automatic Water Top-off Holder

It is designed to hold a standard 1L plastic bottle

Not the prettiest looking device but it does its job.  i would say it is more suitable for tanks under 10gal.

A site I like is this.

They do some nice custom auto top offs for nanos and larger for relatively cheap if you don't want to build it yourself.

2 months ago I bought 20+ CRS and 10+ CBS (all SS-SSS grade)...
1 month later 6 of the CBS started carrying eggs...
Last week, I found babies everywhere (about 20+ babies shrimps) and they are: blue bolts, shadow panda, golden, CRS/CBS and probably some different types...
Now I have a mischlings tank [emoji19][emoji19]...very suprised but more happy [emoji5]️[emoji5]️ when I see almost 4-5 baby shadow panda running around

Having finally finished my education, I have the time to resurrect my old 58 gallon tank. Sadly, in the great move up North, I had to leave behind its stand. For the past 3.5 years, this poor tank has languished in the basement as all of its inhabitants, including fish I had had for many years, did not survive a 3 day drive despite preventative measures.

This is the tank in its algae infested glory 4 years ago:

    It grew MTS very well:

Currently, I am completing the stand for it following hydrophte's raw industrial style.

The building material on top of the messy wood pile in the basement (I'm still cleaning up from a hot water pipe leak)

    Makeshift work table:

    Staining the wood:

    In action concentration shot:

    First coat of poly:

Luckily, the swissian is short and so does not hit her head on the beams in this 200 year old basement.

    Updates will be soon!

totally agree. i've tried many different things. kens worked the best for me in this tank. but in another tank it wasn't as successful.  i find it best to feed your shrimp just before the lights go off for the night. this draws out the planaria and at the same time you feed put the pen in.

Added SD products underneath a layer of eco complete. Developing a nice layer of bio film. Managed to get 4 berried females already inside the breeder box. I'm moving some shrimps around that's why there's so many in the breederbox.
Edit: just realized you don't really see many in the photo

Rescape! I still don't have shrimp yet and the scape was bugging me, thought the substrate was too deep and the glass divider for the partial bare bottom seemed overkill for this tank. I noticed pics of other sulawesi tanks seems to have a very thin layer of substrate. I also looked at pics of the lake bottoms native to sulawesi shrimp and decided on a more simple layout. I added a 2nd led running 24/7 to help with the algea growth which wasn't happening. Lastly, having issues with 8.5 dissolving I divided to refill with salty 7.5.
PH is 7.6 and gh is 8 temp 79f.
Here is the lake bottom picture that I used as a guide. Flat with bits of rock and plants scattered about.
    Here my new scape:

I only used about 1/4 deep eco complete planted. I moved the argonite into a media bag in the hob.
I used lava rock landscaping rock from Home Depot and these clear poly hair bands to attach Java moss and Subwassertang.

I put the 13 rabbit snails back in.

    Thank you!
Shrimps are doing great. First day I saw a berried female was 02/01 so I'm expecting to see the baby all around pretty soon. I have 5 of them carrying eggs now and they're all CBS.
In the mean time, enjoy the buce flower :
