Welcome I lurked for a couple weeks before joining as well. And also had problems with my cherries mysteriously dying. I am thourougly convinced at this point that the random deaths were casued simply from my tank not being matured. Not that it wasnt cycled but it hadnt developed any biofilm. Patience in this hobby is probably the most important thing I am begining to learn.

Hi all,
I wrapped up my work early today. Hence, I setup my camera and managed to take some nice picture of my Japanese Red Bee shrimps. As such, I will like to share with everyone to cheer up your weekend. ^^
Cheers.

agreed.
I'm setting up some 40B tanks with a hmf divider. swisstropicals is putting 2 holes down the center of the 30ppi foam so i can have 2 pipes. 1 for each side of the tank.
hmf's are by far the best way to save $ and have simple but amazing setups.

why do you want to lower your ph? If your tank is stable at 6.5 and your shrimp seem happy then why mess with it? It can become unstable when you start adding addditives. If you realy want to lower your ph I would suggest doing it with ro water. Just my two cents.

RyeGuy411 got a reaction from ANBU in The Tale of the Golden Bees
The golden bees have been in the tank a week now and look like they are really settled in. Last night I was watching my fire red tank and happened to turn around and saw one of the goldens folded into a C shape. I looked closer and as I did they peeled out of their shell with one quick jerk. That was the first time I have actually seen a molt it was awesome. I looked around the tank and saw another exoskeleton so great news. This morning when I woke up they were all grazing on the substrate together. Here's a picture.

Berried Sulawesi Golden Crown Shrimp (Caridina Sulawesi)
I have been trying to breed yellow and blue Caridina sulawesi (Sualwesi crown shrimp) lines for some time now, but they were not very stable. Lately things look more promising. Most of the offspring from two bluish females and two bluish males showed nice yellow coloration (!) on their heads. Yesterday, I discovered the first berried female from the new generation. The eggs are green and turn black as they mature. Interestingly, the males show a bluish coloration, as you can see on the picture. I am curious to see if this is a real sexual dimorphism. I hope the other females will get berried soon so that I will have a good stock for further selection.

RyeGuy411 reacted to Rodan76 in Another 12g Long Set up...Yawn. :)
Tank came yesterday! got it ready to start adding the goodies. still waiting for the substrate which is supposed to deliver tomorrow...the anticipation is killing me. I got both escuro and cafe. still not sure which color direction to go. I am planning this to be an OEBT tank so i am leaning more towards the cafe so they stand out a little better. I also got some petrified wood which is reddish and grey colored. need to do the acid test on them before i put them in though...
So as far as the bacteria additives go can you do too much? am i overdoing it by using so many products? I have all the following but would love some direction on which ones to start with:
MK breed z silver
Lowkeys speed sand
glasgarten bacterae
glasgarten betaglucan
Also do you all think it would be bad to start the cycle with just a sponge filter and then add my canister a couple days later? Not sure when the new filter media will show up since it is coming from the UK..hopefully sooner than later.
Any and all opinions welcome!

I set up a new tank on November 7th. I definitely have MTS this is the fourth tank set up since June. I wanted to chronicle the tale with this journal. The tank cycled easily and I really like the set up. I have golden bees coming from mayphly today. Here are some progress pics.

I think I want to try some trumpet snails in my shrimp tanks to reduce the debris on the substrate. Anyone have some? How much?

RyeGuy411 reacted to mangisda in ID this please
Ok im back. Few months back i had shrimp death due to my cousin fogging the adjacent room to my fish room. Almost gave up on shrimping but there were 4 baby blues left. They were from a mix of a lot of blue neos. Blue diamond, fantasy blue, and blue rilis. Now from the 4, i have almost a hundred, and the rilis seem to be lesser. And i have what seems to be blue dream velvets and blue diamonds. Please confirm my ID.
Also its december, so Murray christmas to you.
