Shrimpin aint easy

I siphon as well. I recently drained my 32 gal brute trash can and will make a cinder block stand for it. This way I can add a spout near the bottom and use gravity to fill my buckets/containers. Either that or a pump to pull water from the container into buckets and 5 gallon jugs.

Seems plenty bright for any moss, buce and anubias. I guess it would depend on what plants you are keeping.

Getting back into the hobby after being out a few years and discovered this amazing forum with so much great info. Used to have crs,cbs, and oebts. Just finished cycling my 20l with controsoil and will be going with various Taiwan bees. Lucky to be in San Jose where I'll be able to pick up from joe's Aqua! Can't wait to pick up my first batch. Thanks for all the great info!

Andy and I were having a conversation about aeration yesterday and after that I decided to build a closed loop air supply. I bought a new larger air pump and some manifolds and fittings last night. Should have this set up on wednesday night. It is ideal for my new rack. And I gave myself room to expand with 2-3 more tanks, I will be doing HMF's on all my new tanks.

I set up an HMF filter on a 20L a couple weeks ago and am loving it already! Seeing Andy's new rack with his multiple HMF tanks was my inspiration.

SD method, with HMF on a Mr. Aqua Low Iron 22L

Ive used purigen for a while and usually keep an extra bag in some RO water until I need to swap it out. One bag I forgot about recently and the container was bone dry, is the purigen ok or should I get a new bag?

One important thing is, what exactly are you using to measure pH?
 
If you are using API pH test, it is a very very inaccurate test.
 
If you aren't using a calibrated pH probe, chances are your getting wrong pH reading.
 
When I first got ADA AS, it buffered to around 4.5 I think?
 
Bacteria grows quickest in pH above 6 or 7 and in high temperatures.

I normally store my backup bag in complete dry condition.

While I cycled my tank with Amazonia I used prime treated tap water after it cycled I switched to rodi remineralized

Its not tap water in general, I have the same issue. My tap water tests fine, a little hard but fine for neos gh 8 kh 7 ph 7.8 TDS 200, I add prime and put it in the tank and shrimp die one by one.  Switched to RO and remineralizer, no deaths. There can be things in tap water they do not show up on our test kits that are still toxic and prime wont neutralize. This is not the case for everyone but tap water is never completely stable and can change depending on many factors and the original source.  To remove the possibility of something unknown in the tap water or the chance of the water changing many people find it easier to use remineralized RO.
