We try our best to get everything out as soon as we can, often its the same day on most orders. We ship EVERYTHING big or small, even if it costs us a bit more on postage via priority USPS mail.  Often on larger orders we even eat the price of insurance. EVERY order big or small is important to us.

Fems carry the color genetics, so breed to the best fem and save the best colored male offsprings to breed back.

Just wanted to say how happy I am with the shipment I have received from Han.  I ordered two SS filter guards, which are really well made.  Despite coming from the US to Canada, the shipment arrived quickly. Han also included a few samples of some of his foods. I will feed them to the PRL over the next couple days and post pictures of the feeding results!

Thank you, Han. Loyal customer earned!

the light used in the tank is 2700 K that is why images have a yellow touch, otherwise the dark and intense red color woul apear even stronger

I would assume the demand would be something less then the normal CPOs.  In my experience there isn't a huge demand for them in general.  I could be completely off base though

I recently bought a bunch of "blue dream" shrimp from my LFS and when I was acclimating them I noticed one was quite different than the others.  I tried to research and I'd it myself and the closest I could come was maybe a black tiger with black eyes? It looks black in my pics but sometimes when I look at it in the right light it looks very dark blue.  I also thought maybe it was just a really old, mature blue dream but I don't think so. The eyes look brighter in the pics but I was shining a flashlight at her. Without extra lighting the eyes are dark.

manticore reacted to Soothing Shrimp in Astaxanthin color change explained
I was doing some research on shrimp pigment and found out that shrimp color- such as different types of albinism is not related to melanin; that's a mammal thing. Instead, crustation pigments are all carotenoids.

Not surprising when you think about it, and something which I guessed already.

However upon further research I found why astaxanthin causes color change.  In my past experiment with neo yellows, feeding astax causes a color shift from yellow to greenish to blue to brown.  Why is this so, when in fish it can make them redder?

The answer lay in how the molecule is constructed.  When astaxanthin is relaxed it is red, when compacted it is blue.  In crustations it does not occur in it's basic relaxed form when eaten; instead it’s mostly bound to a protein called crustacyanin that causes it to compact.  Thus causing a bathochromic shift.  In other words, since this string winds up being crumpled up and forced into into another molecule, it behaves as a blue/brown pigment.

An example of this is a normal brownish lobster.  Cook that lobster and it turns red.  Why?  Because the protein that compresses the astaxanthin is broken and the astax then is free to go to relaxed form.

So color of the tissue/shell is from differing amounts of free and bound astax in different layers of the shell, how thick the shell is, and whether astaxanthin is closer to the surface or in a deeper layer.

i did a second instant shooting session using cool white LED light, the pictures are all take from upside (i will sent these animals to a friends in a few hours that is why i took them out). Where they seen dark the white LED light comes from above, where the red is more clear the light comes from side. i just tried to show the intensity of their coloration
