The biotope of fissidens Fazal has been completely damaged.  so there are very little chances to see that species again

somtimes there are also sad news that have to be written.

11 Species of fissidens on this image in comparition... some are not determined now that is why i wil not write directly on the image. here the main species from left to right:
    Fissidens fox
    Fissidens idukki
    Fissidens osmundoides (probably)
    Fissidens sp
Fissidens rufulus (very seldom/ new to the hobby)
Fissidens rivularis Amaria Taruya (very seldom, there are very few that are keeping it)
    Fissidens incurvus
    Fissidens bhgamandala
    Fissidens fazal
Fisidens sp (will determine it soon)
Fissidens sp (also wil determine it soon, probably bryoides)
i hope you like them all. simply ask if you find some of these interesting and you want to have them. Fissidens invurvus, rivularis and rufulus are really seldom. None of the above species comes from Poland, these have completely different origin.

Thanks Manticore.  I know of several places here where I live in which a particular plant or animal is only found in that small area or seasonal vernal pools and no where else in the state.  We too in the U.S. have destroyed many species in our countries development over the centuries.

We had to carry pepper spray made for bears in Alaska as well as put bells on our gear to alert the animals and not to suddenly surprise them.

i do not have direct contact to the biotope of fissidens fazal. (the most other species of fissidens i know directly from nature).

about all fissidens species live in small areas (sometimes tiny). in such cases not the entire world (like co2 emisions ) is guilty, but the local developmet of certain places. Up untill now i saw several species completely distroyed in natural habitat, and ireversable changes that lead to extinguishing species or subspecies.

Fissidens are in the world of mosses from the most seldom to be found (remote areas, local microhabitats and so on). regular people do not know to see these small plants and do not know to value them. sometimes it is a waterfall, a small pond, channel or forest. and by human development such small habitats can and are often completely modified in such a manner that the mosses, especially fissidens will not live there anymore.

it is a sad but generalised situation. the main influences that lead to loss of fissidens habitat are deforestation, hydropower plant construction and rural development.

also regarding fissidens maybe it is ok to mention that such areas can be in jungle or in places with really large predators (tigers, crocodiles, bears). up untill now i have met 3 times bears (not small ones)  when i was on the way to see for spectacular mosses (mainly fissidens).  friends of mine have similar experience regarding other large predators.

this is the smallest fissidens that i got from tropical region. each lives in submerged conditions on lateritic soils.

manticore got a reaction from Jen in My moss colection - over 60 species
Lately i was asked to send out the entire colection. and this brought me to the point of starting to see how many species i do have. As lately i got also some new mosses from friends from several regions and also managed to find some new species for the hobby, counting them all brought me to about 80 species. From these only about 15 are the classical ones (live mini taiwan, peacock, pilo, cameroon, duriae and so on) and all the other ones i got from different other sources. si they are really many (only to count a few i would say now there are more than 30 fissidens, 10 fontinalis, 5 pellias and so on). i will work also on scientifical ID of these, but this will sure take very long time. the last images are new fissidens which i am not 100 % sure about species. And the nice news is several other Fissidens are on the way here (some more new species). Contact me if you have any questions.

If you ask yourself how this moss is this bushy and looks somehow with stronger leaves compared to other fissidens , it is because the leaves have a second row of cells that makes them more stable even in strong water flow. this species is very reliable and stable also for waterfalls or high water flow.

Maybe it happened to ask yourself what would be the smallest/tiniest Fissidens. Well here one of these nano mosses - Fissidens pussilus his name. and because i always been asked about commercial names, you can call it Fissidens TOBI. living on rocks in full shade, and being only 1-2 mm high, i would say usually it is only about 1mm. Enjoy, and have a nice weekend, friends!

So this is the facies of Fissidens virudulus ssp incurvus "Edithae". Close to Miroshaki but about 2-3 mm higher. This is how the stones developed in the last 6 months being permanently submerged.

This species comes from small waterfalls and lives naturally almost in complete darkness. So it is very easy to keep, has not high light requirements, it is also very darkgreen.
