Yes the lovely rabbit snails will eat your plants. Mostly I kept plain old java moss (not a lot) in the cardinal tank...that way if the snails did munch on it the replacement wasn't a bit hit, unlike more expensive plants.
What I read about Sulawesi shrimps is the areas they live in don't have much in the way of plants. I did read that one particular type of dense mossy plant called cherry something was the only plant growing in the lakes they came from. Basically you can get away with just having some nice rock formations for them to graze on and leave the plants out.

While back I saw the yellow spotted and lovely they are .

This is no joke.
I planned to get one puffer and so was growing snails in the tank it would end up in, as well as in 4 other tanks (just in case)
For the first 2 weeks my single pea puffer would not eat anything. I figured it was going to starve. In desperation I picked the shell of a few snails and returned them to the tank to be ignored by the puffer.
Then after 2 weeks of ever increasing worry I saw it grab a tiny snail. Within days that tank that was over run with snails now had almost none. I drop 10-12 in the tank each day hoping they will reestablish but they seem to vanish by the next day. Hair algae has now showed up. So today I have my wife pick up 7 ghost shrimp in hopes they will eat the moss and the puffer will ignore them.
As it is the 15 gal is depleted of snails, the 10 is keeping up due to adequate waste food to eat from baby betta feedings. The 5 recently got golden dojo loaches and the snail population if going down.. The loaches also insist that there were never any cherry shrimp in the tank. The 55 has some snails left. I'm now planning to set up a plastic snail bin to try to raise snails faster (think aquatic compost).
So 4 tanks to feed 1 tiny puffer. Imagine if I got 3 puffers.
''So 4 tanks to feed 1 tiny puffer. Imagine if I got 3 puffers.''
lol .
They had the tiny puffers at pet store I go to with cherry shrimp and the puffers one day killed/ate them but I have heard others say that their little puffers only eat snails .
Going back couple of decades a friend had one of those big freshwater puffers think from Brazil but I cant recall the name . It initially only are crayfish but he was able to wean it to take feeder fish , earthworms and other food but not common fish food .

Whaaa? What a hungry little fella! That is crazy, where do they put it all? They're so tiny!
When I checked late last night as well as some little scuds there are also tiny little worms! Really thin and white and small. Are they harmless? X

Your worms are planaria .

Wondering whether to get more males or now I'm down to three get a few females or alternatively leave these 3 to it until...[emoji22] then get some pea puffers [emoji7]

What I like about those bowls is that they are acrylic which I did not know till looked them up and the light .
It makes for a pretty little set up .
You might consider adding regular male guppies which are less aggressive than cobra endlers.

I like the BorneoWild brand which seems to have fallen out of favor with most in the shrimp world .
Though not a food per-se but a supplement I love BorneoShield .
I use it about once a week with my water change and I have noticed way more babies in the tanks which I use it as opposed to the tank which has ''culls'' and I don't use it .

These are the type I'm planning on getting. They seem the easiest to breed.
Red Devil Crabs
Oh those are nice .
For me crabs are to violent, to territorial but some like those are certainly very pretty.

It would be pretty cool if it looked like these rainbow mountains: https://www.google.com/search?q=Zhangye+Danxia+Landform&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj_qN3IhdrKAhUFk4MKHWTFDUAQsAQIHA&biw=1366&bih=643
This place is called the Zhangye Danxia Landform if you are interested in reading more about them. They are located in China.
Anywho, I see them at LFS off and on as well, never really tried them out though
Oh that is nice . I watch Animal shows and China has amazing landscape .

Those are real or photo-shopped ?

My understanding with giant day geckos is they are practically impossible to hold
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The Day geckos are more of 'look at' because you're correct that they are nervous . If I was going to get a 'hold type' gecko I would get a crested .
If you feed wild anoles, house geckos and even skinks for awhile they come right next to you and I'm convinced can tell difference between people but wild day geckos even after couple years remain very aloof and stay semi hidden .
-
The Giant Days can be stunning and they come in different color hues .
http://www.giantdaygecko.com/gallery.html
I don't know much about Cresteds other than they are like ''pets'' as far as very tame and always out in the open .
The Geckos are smarter than most think but I would never get WC again only CB .
-
Yeah I think it's going to be a real pain, my plants are all either rooted to wood or rocks though so hopefully that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Your set ups look facsinating, I'd love to keep some outdoors!
I can only see 3 Endlers today, I think they might be slowly killing each other one by one

You could in the future just use tiny pots with plants placed on your rocks . Ludwiga , water sprite are only a couple which thrive in tiny bit of gravel and grow lush .

Anyone know a good place to get terrarium/vivarium plants? I need to start sourcing for my naturalistic gecko vivarium project. I have an easy source for bamboo so I will get a few there, but my other choices are few.
I am mainly looking for Neoregelia sp., Philodendron sp., and Pothos. Although any others will do.
Any ideas would be great, thanks!
The Philodendron sp.and Pothos you can buy at any garden place even Home depot .
You can probably find Neoregelia on ebay, http://www.blackjungleterrariumsupply.com/Terrarium-Plants_c_16.html and garden stores.
What type Geckos are you going to keep ?
I had a pair of Madagascar type small Geckos in a 40 gallon which were caught in Key west and hid behind corkbark every time I went in room for like 5 years , lol .
I have also kept Dwarf Yellow-headed Geckos.

as someone that spent a lot of time making soap when i was younger, they're genius for using uncolored unscented usually unwanted soap and selling it for $6 lol. all about the marketing
Lol

oh I see the filter has to be removed thus you need to remove the plants, etc .
That is a pain .
I like the round look of the tank itself and was eyeing the bigger model for some pygmy everglade sunfish but I now see that I couldn't have it as planted tank .
-
Have you considered using fenbendazole 22%(dog dewormer) ? Its cheap, you can get it at walmart and shrimp safe. I had a bad hydra and planaria problem in three tanks. I did lose a couple of nerites out of five in one tank. I think it was due to dosing an extra day for that tank. I was very worried about using it but was easy and very safe.
Nerites do not handle it well at all. Surprised you didn't lose them all .

Yeah it comes with a removable insert and it's own ceramic media substrate, biorb reckon you need to change the filter every 4 months but from what I've read you can definitely go longer than that like maybe 6 to 8. I imagine it will be tricky. The general consensus is that they're not great tanks, you're not supposed to put live plants in them but I have loads! They seem to do fine. I'm trying to recreate the Endlers natural habitat as much as possible. Do you think they would benefit from an airstone? I really like them but don't know if there would be any point?
Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
I would not add an air stone . The filter and water changes are plenty .
I keep endlers outside but in an old 55 gallon I had a snake in years ago I also keep about 200 endlers and some platies without a filter .
I do siphon out bottom and change about 20 gallons a week .
They are my ''back up'' because come summer I get countless Cuban treefrogs in the outside endlers stock tanks which look like ponds and though you wouldn't think treefrogs eat fish, the toll they consume is staggering so I use the back ups which breed all year long after the treefrogs leave .

You can do glosso without co2 but it def does better with it
Thanks that is what I suspected .
I do like it and area pet store has it so since tank I want it for is well lit going to try a bit of it and see how it fares .
-
I wanted to ask you what type filter your BIORB uses because it looks like undergravel but looking at pics it seems to be some type removable insert ?
I saw the 28 gallon with salt on some video but it had no sound .
-
The carpeting plant is glosso. Much lower maintenance than baby tears (when I had it .. It require weekly trimming). This tank is all about low maintenance
Thanks I just looked it up . Are you using C02 with it ?
It seems it requires CO2 , If not going to try it .
-
Thank you! I used to have a ton of shrimp tanks but now down to just one (one fresh one salt)
Here my 16g tank
I love my crystals but half want to add something to mix it up.
I wonder what would happen if I added some blue bolts? They are just a fancy Snow White which come from CRS/CBS. A few have appeared recently in my tank but so far is sounded like I should mix anything in or babies "miclins' will be lower quality. I'm going to add some blue dream neos and I'll have to see if I can find something else to mix up the Cardinia gene pool
Very pretty. Are those bottom dwelling plants what are called Baby tears ?

Sorry for the delay, I have three assasin snails currently. However today I have today discovered some very, very, very tiny little creatures darting about on the inside of the glass? What can they be? SHRIMPS? I did put new plants in last week but soaked them for days.....I hope it is shrimp but does this happen?
Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Chances are they are harmless scuds . They came with your plants . You soaked them but they still survived . Male endlers will eat baby scuds but perhaps not adults .
They are harmless .
-
No they don't. When the males are full grown at about 1+ years old they have a face of bristles. Those males you should really keep only one per tank. If not, you will have some fighting and dominance going on. Best to keep one male. You can keep several females with one male.
They are very cool looking and definately fun to watch!
I never had bristlenose but they are certainly interesting looking .
I don't know much about plecos but suspected that males would not get along because in area canals it seems like they are territorial .
-
You could always add a few snails and/or cherry shrimp to your endlers tank and harvest them for your dwarf puffer tank .
-
I'm surprised only 3 water changes in roughly 10 months because its not a planted tank .
By that I mean I could see few water changes in planted tank as plants take care of the gravel.

I'm not a snail person but those rabbit snails by themselves are beautiful .
I have only seen 1 type in person but looking at the others on sites they are real nice .
What type/s do you plan to get ?
