  1. I don't boil mine, but I know they are good. I do let them sit overnight in

some RO water, then I put them in the tank. You can boil them first for

three minutes in boiled water, let them cool, and put them in, but I was

told, that would take away some of the reason for using them.

So, hopefully, a seasoned shrimp vet will give us their opinion on them.

I use the miniature alder cones that are all natural, and no sprays or

    pesticides used.

  2. Well, I can tell u, don't panic, think they are planria worms, then over dose the tank

with Fenben, which doesn't even bother the detritus worms, but too much fenben

is harmful to shrimp. It was a very hard lesson to learn, not to mention, expensive,

heart breaking, and a bummer. A lot of praying though. lol

Clean the substrate, and catch the big ones with a shrimp net, and in a few days,

they will be gone. Slow down on the feeding some for a few days.

  3. Welcome to the Jungle, Louie.....lol

The tank was actually supposed to be sized different, and have 7 sections, 3 each side, and a middle media area,

but they kind of goofed it up, and it was custom made, so I went with the sections this way, instead of starting all

over again. I had nitrite and nitratre readings today, so I am almost cycled. I'll give it another day before I change

90% of the water and set the parameters for the shrimp, and let them go to their new home and watch them close

    for a few days.

  4. The xmas moss looks like a flatten Christmas Tree, and tends to be a brighter green color versus the Java moss is a darker green color

and the java moss usually grows faster than the xmas moss, but the xmas moss tends to fill in deeper, and is more like a plush type

of carpet. You can usually do more design type of work with xmas moss than Java moss. Both are good though.

I also have two 10 gallon led lights for a Marineland 10 gallon tank for sale too. One new, one about two weeks used.

  5. So I have the exact measurement of the xmas moss sheets that I have for sale.

    I have (4) four sheets that are 6.5" X 8"

    and (3) three sheets that are 4" X 8"

    and (1) one sheet that is 3.5" X 8"

All are xmas moss on stainless steel mesh and made by H4N, and they are excellent

quality. I keep them in a tank under a grow light.

In the photos I have one (last photo) that is a triangle xmas moss sheet that I have had for

three weeks now, so you know what these will look like in 3 weeks to a month.

They grow out very nice and look like a nice lawn on the floor of the tank or

you can use them for a xmas moss wall too. They grow in nice and thick, and

are easy to trim. After a couple of months, they are full and gorgeous.

I paid good money for these, and everyone knows that Han's work is quality.

They look excellent, nice straight lines, filled in nice, and will grow out really well.

I will give someone a really nice deal if they want to take them all, or anyone can

buy one or two of them.  Just message me, and Thanks!

  6. Living in a small town up in the sticks, you either get personal mail delivery from

your mail person, who everyone knows, and is usually a friend, or you have

    to go get it anyway.

Ours is so strange, all of our mail goes to Great Falls, Montana, first before it goes to Butte. Even

mail from Butte, goes to Great Falls and then gets routed back to Butte. Seems like they could

save some money by NOT doing that, but what do I know.   lol

  7. Louie, I could add more plants, but I feel like the xmas moss on the bottom and sides is good, and the one

plant that I combined will be a good strong plant, and I want to be able to see them more often. The moon sand

on the top layer of substrate is really Black, black, and shiny, and the shrimp will just pop on the substrate. They will

stand out when they are on the substrate, so with the plant, wood, sponge, filter, air stone, feeder dish, oak leaf,

and Indian almond leaf, I wanted to leave some of the nice substrate space too. The moss floor is half of the

floor, and will look like a lawn when it is grown in nice.

On my Leopard Discus tank, it will have a brick road, white picket fence, bridge, street lights, and picnic area,

with trees round it to look like a nice park. It's going to look cool!.....

  8. Oh, when I think of TB, I think of the BKK and Panda cross. I thought that was what a TB was or Taiwan Bee?

Or do they call them something else?

Either way, I am looking for Blue Bolts, Black King Kong's, Panda's, and crosses of those.

But after what happened, now I only have $240.00 cash to spend, and I have some great large xmas moss sheets made by Han to

    trade or sell.

  9. It is only a 14 gallon. It is long, but it is only 48 inches long by 8 inches wide by 9 inches tall.  48" X 8" X 9"

So, it looks bigger than it is, it is just long. But each shrimp section is plenty big for them, and then

the middle area won't have any shrimp or fish, or anything live, just media. With the filters though,

the water moves in a big long circle, and moves from end to end. With the stainless steel mesh

over the dividers, I will probably have to keep those clean a lot to make sure the water is moving.

With the sponge in each section, and the nano filter in each section though, each section would still

    be okay on it's own.

  10. I am looking for Blue Bolts, Black King Kongs, Panda's, and TB's.

I have $240.00 total cash to spend, so I am looking for any deals.

I also have 4 large xmas moss sheets, and 4 small xmas moss sheets to trade and some equipment too.

The xmas moss sheets were made by Han (h4n) so you know they are quality. The large xmas moss on stainless steel sheets are 7 1/2" X 8" and I have 4 of them. The small xmas moss sheets are 71/2" X 3" and I have 4 of them. I keep them in a tank with a grow light on top and they look awesome. Han's work is great and I paid good money for them, but I ended up not needing them because they didn't do my tank dimensions right.

I also have two new Tetra Whisper air pumps, still in the box air pumps, the small ones, plus 6 new shrimp feeders, a bag of black moon sand, and some other various supplies, all to trade for shrimp.

I am looking for the best deal I can get, as I lost a bunch of my starter shrimp stock to worms. So, I had already spent a lot of money on my shrimp that was lost. Bummed me out big time.

But my new tank is set, (see my journal), and I want to just get Blue Bolts, TB's, BKK, Panda's, and

the BKK/Panda crosses. Maybe SSS CBS. Those 4 kinds are my favorites. If anyone could throw in any that are berried, that would be awesome!

Anyway, that is what I have for cash and trade, so I will take the best deal anyone can give me. I am in need of any help I can get right now because of the loss.

Thanks Doc - message me, or email me at doc4pc2@gmail.com

  11. Here is the before shot:

    before

    Here is the after shot:

    after3

The tank is 48 inches long with a hanging LED Light, and a DIY Flip Up Lid, it has four sections for shrimp, and one middle section where all of the media is, like a BioWheel 200 HOB, UV Sterilizer, Power Filter, Moving Water Filter, Peat Pellets, Bio Balls, Malaysia drift wood, Heater, Maple leafs, Indian Almond Leafs, Bio for shrimp.

Each Shrimp section has Fluval Shrimp Stratum, and Black Moon Sand on the top layer, one piece of Malaysia drift wood, one fallen Maple leaf, one small Indian Almond Leaf, Xmas Moss on most of the bottom, small cluster of miniature Alder cones, dual Sponge filter, small nano Filter to move water, one air stone, one shrimp tube, and one small plant. The only other that I am adding to each shrimp section will be a floating Moss cove, and small shrimp cave. There will be Malaysia Trumpet snails in the tank, and no other snails, and each section will have one small otto in it. The water moves around the tank from end to end. Everything is on a timer with backups. The cabinet is heavy duty, and has lots of space underneath to hold lots of supplies.

You can see into the middle section where all the media is from the top, but has my new logo on the front. On the right hand side, there will be room to put a second tank that I will use for emergency, if something major was to happen, so I could transfer all shrimp to the emergency tank, that I will stock with ottos

    to keep it cycled.

If you look at the journal photos, you can see what I did as I went along, how I built it, starting with tank to substrate, to xmas moss, to plant, to sponges, to filter, to media, etc.

I am just waiting for the tank to cycle which will be any day now, and then I will put my shrimp in their new home and work on putting together the emergency tank that will by on the right hand side of this tank. Plus I have one 29 gallon tank that will have my one Leopard Discus in it, and one ten gallon tank that will be a planted xmas moss tank. I am only going to use xmas moss in my tanks, and the one plant is a combined Anacharis / Cabomba and that will be the only plant I allow in the tanks too.

Appreciate your opinions and what you think, any improvements, questions, etc. I have worked hard to make this a decent home for my new shrimp life hobby,

    the last couple of months.

    Thanks, Doc

  12. I haven't heard about this, but on all 3 of my ten gallons, I have the led light almost right on the glass top. They have handles on each end, so they are about a half an inch right above the glass, and I haven't had any problems. I leave it on the day lights 10 hours, then on the Blue night lights 6 hours, and 8 hours off at night. But I have only had them this way for about 4 months.
