  1. Congrats to the winner! I think next time, though you should be able to do a write up on your tank with the photo and have at least three photos. There was no doubt everyone liked #7, especially with that landscaping. It is an awesome tank. I really like #2, too.
  2. Welcome, you will love it here! And where you are located, you have access to tons of shrimps and supplies, that us local guys in the small towns can't get.
  3. I have the NAG pen, but I think it just depends on the bait you use and you have to make sure the hole where they go in is pointed down on the substrate. When I had an issue with worms, and Planaria, it didn't seem to matter what I put in there, very few went into the trap. I tried bacon, turkey, ham, pieces of raw shrimp, but none seemed to work. I haven't had any problems with Planaria lately, but I will try the Ken's Veggie Sticks for bait in the NAG trap if I have to use it again and see it that will work for me.
  4. I change about 15 to 25% of the water every two weeks. I also top off a little too.
  5. I wonder if the Sera sponge will fit on the XY base? That is also the lowest I have seen the BioSpon is at $30 bucks a piece.
  6. I have about 20 of the tiny, miniature moss balls in a small semi circle glass case in the tank. The bottom of the circle is flat and it has stainless steel mess on the bottom. The fry can get into and out. But will the moss balls continue to grow like this? The water flows through the little case. Or should I take them out and just let them sit in the tank wherever individually? They are really tiny moss balls called Marimo moss balls.
  7. Looks like it will be a great setup, can't wait to follow this project.
  8. That's amazing! I thought too much algae was something you didn't want in your tanks?
  9. Strange, that u can't see them very well, but there are more photos are in my gallery too, and with the journal. Just click to my gallery to see all of the photos and other information on this tank.
  10. I just want to say, I love it, it is going to be an awesome tank!
  11. They can handle the cold a lot easier than the heat, but here in Montana, it is getting to 30 degrees at night, and by the next couple of weeks, it will get down to the 20 degrees at night, and be around 50 degrees during the day. We have kind of had an indian summer this year, so it's been great, but we always get snow before Halloween here.
  12. The TB's have been in this tank for almost two months now and are doing great. Plus there is a lot of fry in the tank now too and quite a few berried shrimp. So far, so good on the tank. No deaths, and they really like the walkways, all of the Malaysia Drift wood stacked in a pile, and the HMF sponge filter. Keeping the leafs in the large container really helps and they clean it all up. I added a LowKeys Absorption Board to the tank, and I put in one new Bio Digest, one new Cappa Bark, and one new Max Breed BioBall on the first of each month. I made a vacuum cleaner that is smaller so I can get into the nooks and crannies easily and suck up anything that needs cleaning. I change about 15 to 25% of the water every two weeks and the water parameters have been staying steady and stable. TDS - 150 PH - 6.4 Temp - 72 to 72.5 GH - 6 KH - 0 Water has been staying crystal clear. The light is on a timer and I use daylights for 8 hours now, blue night lights for 6 hours, and off for 10 at night. There is some natural light to the far right of the tank in the morning, but no direct sunlight hits the tank from any side. I have been feeding a lot of different food. They are eating really well. They love Mulberry leaves, (their favorite), Bee Pollen, Bacter AE, several different kinds of powder food, organic spinach, stinging needle leaves, Indian Almond leaves, Fallen Oak leaves, dried organic Mulberry branches that are in small pieces that are used for making mulberry tea. Banana sprig, Alder cones, and then the dish of different plants, and xmas moss. They love the long bamboo walkway that goes the length of the entire tank and the stone walkway, and hanging out in the stack of Malaysia Drift wood by the HFM Filter. They also love the Cholla Wood and seem to clean up the bare bottom tank with the otos. No algae or other issues so far, and I can easily take anything out and clean it when I am changing the water. I may try the new premium shrimp soil in the substrate containers that will be better for them and take out the inert substrate. So that is the update on my Mr Aqua 12 Gallon Low Iron Glass Tank that was setup for the TB's and to make life easier on me to take care of. I don't like the tank mat, and next time would not use it. If you get water from spillage, the tank mat soaks it up, and then you are not sure if you have a leak or if it is the tank mat, but once you dry it all up all around the tank and check, you discover that it is the tank mat that soaks up any water and sits under the tank, so next time, I would be inclined to go without the tank mat. The Penn Plax Cascade 500 Canister Filter is doing an excellent job and is easy to take care of. Combined with the three Tom's mini canisters, three air sponges, and the large HMF Filter with a Tom's mini canister behind the HMF filter, and the four air stones and bubble wand, the tank is staying clean and healthy so far. I will give you an update at about four to six months, then I will see if this setup will really be the way I wanted it. Plus, I have the emergency 10 gallon tank beside it, with pretty much the same water parameters, just incase anything should happen, then I have a tank to put the shrimp right into for emergency. I appreciate any tips, comments, suggestions, help, and your opinions. Thanks, Doc

  14. Welcome, great people here, you will love this forum!
  15. Congrats! You are certainly on a lucky roll! Go play the lotto. lol
  16. I would think any fish that are fast, they wouldn't be able to catch, especially if you have a planted tank and lots of hiding spots and caves, and décor in the tank.
  17. With the way, I use containers for my substrate, this would be excellent substrate to use and easy to change out each year too. This could be the best to use and I would be interested in it for sure.

  20. From the album: New Mr. Aqua Low Iron 12 Gallon Tank

This shows how I tried to set this tank up so that it will be easy to take care of. Substrate in containers, even plants on glass containers, large feeding dish for leaves, a huge Penn Plax Cascade 500 canister filter with three other Tom's mini canister filters, three dual sponges, one huge HMF Filter with mini canister and sponge behind the filter. Colbolt Neo-Therm Heater, moss sheet on top, cup of alder cones, several Malaysia drift wood, four air stones, and one air bubble wand, sliding glass top, bare bottom. Stone walkway and Bamboo walkway across entire tank, RO water with Bee Shrimp Mineral GH+, Bee Balls, and the ability to take anything out of the tank and clean it in aquarium water at any time. The Led Light is hung 6 inches above and I can make it higher or lower with ease, it has a Danner air pump with 4 different air slots to use. Tank is in a place where it will not get any sunlight and it is on a remote light switch. Tank is crystal clear, and I do mean crystal clear. It is cycling right now and I will be using this for my TB's. I will be adding some long branches and twigs for them to run around the tank on, and other than that. It is set. I use Colony, so the fish in the tank that are helping cycle it are fine, and the tank will cycle in about 10 to 12 days and be ready for the shrimp. I have about a dozen that are berried, and my CBS just had about 50 fry in the smaller tank they are in right now. This Mr. Aqua Low Iron Glass Tank is amazing, the clarity, and crystal clear glass is awesome. It has more of a tiny hint of blue versus the green with other tanks. The seams are perfect on the tank. Everything will be easy to reach and get to. When I vacuum the bottom bare glass, the water goes right into a big 5 gallon bucket, so if I do suck up any fry or shrimp, they can go right back into the tank. The substrate, I can just take out, and rinse in aquarium water to clean, and still keep the good bacteria. With the HMF, sponge filters, plants, drift wood, etc. there will be plenty of bio film for them. Plus the large container for leaves will keep the leaf dust and tiny pieces mainly in the container. The water flow is decent, but not too strong. Just a gently flow around the tank that circles the entire tank. With the Cascade canister, that is how it is made so that the whole tank gets some circulation. I am also using BioDigest once a month in the tank, cappa wood, and Bio Ball changed once a month too. So, this is how I hope this tank will be. I mainly want it to be easy to take care of, easy to clean, easy to get to things, and still have a good environment for the shrimp. Now, if it works out this way, I will have to let you know. lol
  21. Welcome! Glad you joined, you will love it here.
  22. yep, put some alovera lotion on the cut, or it will start to ich if any tank bacteria is still in there. The alovera lotion will heal it up quick.
