I use pure remineralized rain water for all my tanks with great effect, I'm from the UK country side however so not sure how the water compaires. I get pH 6 TDS 12 GH 2 and KH 0.

I ran tests on rain water over a one week period. The rain water was run through a sponge filter and that was all. I also let some set and tested it each day for a week.
I get all tests exactly the same as my RO water except, the TDS is 20, and my RO TDS is 4, and
there is .5 ammonia in the rain water. Other than those two differences, the water is exactly the same all across the board as RO water.
I feel like I could use the rain water instead of RO water in my tanks no problem. I live in the mountains, so as long as I run it and colllect it through a filter or two coming in and going out, it is just as good as RO water.
    What do you think?

It's pretty common for the cheaper heaters to not be accurate with their temperature dial.  Having said that, they do tend to hold steady withwhatever you dial in though.  Hence the need for the manual one to be accurate.

Loved that page! Thanks for doing that. I have been looking for what I want to put in my 10 gallon tank. I
want it to be freshwater fish, not shrimp. Just maybe four of them max in the tank. I love those Panda Loaches,
they are very cool. The Zebra Pleco is too.

I wish they made dwarf discus. You would think someone would have breed them by now.

Doc4PC2 got a reaction from ctaylor3737 in Kukki food?
Han gave me a sample called Cheeseburger with one of my orders. I don't know if it is the Kukki you are talking about though.
But the Shrimp didn't seem interested, and you have to be very careful when you take it out of the tank, or it will fall apart
and spread uneaten food all over. It won't stay in one piece when you take out the uneaten food. I always take the uneaten
food out, if it is not eaten within three hours, four, max.  So, you have to have tweezers and a net right next to it to get the
Cheeseburger out, or it will break apart and spread all over the tank.

It also may not have been the Cheeseburger food too, as they don't seem to be interested in eating much of anything I put
into the tank right now. They seem content to eat the biofilm, and Indian Almond Leaves. They love the Indian Almond Leaves.
They will eat it until there is nothing left except the skeleton. They don't like the fallen Oak Leaves as much as the Indian Almond
Leaves, but they eat it, but not like they eat the Indian Almond Leaves. I wonder what other kinds of leaves they would love that
as much as the Indian Almond Leaves? I have only tried the Oak Leaf and IAL.

    I use the Danner AP - 8
It has four outlets, and it can go from loud to quiet. But I have found a setting that
gives me the power to run all that I want, and it is very quiet. I do have it sitting on
a couple of small cloths with the nothing on the top of it, and air flow going under
it too. I think you can see in my main tank journal gallery. On the lower settings,
    it is super quiet.

acclimate nicely, and I got a couple of deep blue oebt's that are amazing out of a batch I bought a awhile
back. His prices are very competitive, and you won't be dissappointed. I have ordered from him a few
times, and every order was amazing!
I just got a new order and as soon as I have time, I will get some pics up, but WOW! is what I've got to say!

I have to use heaters during the night, as it cools down pretty good here in

and use the AC when we do get a hot day. So far, I have been able to
keep the temp fairly stable at 72.5 - 24/7. So far......

Doc4PC2 got a reaction from Soothing Shrimp in Lowering pH
Using Peat Pellets in a filter bag will lower the PH quite bit. It doesn't take too much for
the peat pellets to do the job. I had to take out half of the peat pellets because it was
lowering the PH fast. Now I use those Kcups that people use for coffee. I use those
stainless steel mesh ones, and peat pellets in the cup and let them float in the tank.
They do a great job of keeping the ph down to 6.2 to 6.4.  - Plus the shrimp seem
to like to float around the tank on them and ride them.

    Here is the before shot:

    Here is the after shot:

The tank is 48 inches long with a hanging LED Light, and a DIY Flip Up Lid, it has four sections for shrimp, and one middle section where all of the media is, like a BioWheel 200 HOB, UV Sterilizer, Power Filter, Moving Water Filter, Peat Pellets, Bio Balls, Malaysia drift wood, Heater, Maple leafs, Indian Almond Leafs, Bio for shrimp.
Each Shrimp section has Fluval Shrimp Stratum, and Black Moon Sand on the top layer, one piece of Malaysia drift wood, one fallen Maple leaf, one small Indian Almond Leaf, Xmas Moss on most of the bottom, small cluster of miniature Alder cones, dual Sponge filter, small nano Filter to move water, one air stone, one shrimp tube, and one small plant. The only other that I am adding to each shrimp section will be a floating Moss cove, and small shrimp cave. There will be Malaysia Trumpet snails in the tank, and no other snails, and each section will have one small otto in it. The water moves around the tank from end to end. Everything is on a timer with backups. The cabinet is heavy duty, and has lots of space underneath to hold lots of supplies.
You can see into the middle section where all the media is from the top, but has my new logo on the front. On the right hand side, there will be room to put a second tank that I will use for emergency, if something major was to happen, so I could transfer all shrimp to the emergency tank, that I will stock with ottos
    to keep it cycled.
If you look at the journal photos, you can see what I did as I went along, how I built it, starting with tank to substrate, to xmas moss, to plant, to sponges, to filter, to media, etc.
I am just waiting for the tank to cycle which will be any day now, and then I will put my shrimp in their new home and work on putting together the emergency tank that will by on the right hand side of this tank. Plus I have one 29 gallon tank that will have my one Leopard Discus in it, and one ten gallon tank that will be a planted xmas moss tank. I am only going to use xmas moss in my tanks, and the one plant is a combined Anacharis / Cabomba and that will be the only plant I allow in the tanks too.
Appreciate your opinions and what you think, any improvements, questions, etc. I have worked hard to make this a decent home for my new shrimp life hobby,
    the last couple of months.
    Thanks, Doc

I haven't heard about this, but on all 3 of my ten gallons, I have the led light almost right on the glass top. They have handles on each end, so they are about a half an inch right above the glass, and I haven't had any problems. I leave it on the day lights 10 hours, then on the Blue night lights 6 hours, and 8 hours off at night. But I have only had them this way for about 4 months.

It seems like my shrimp really love it when I blanch a small slice of organic zucchini, or organic spinach leaf.
I just boil it for three minutes, let it cool, and them put it in, and they seem to swarm to the veggies.

I also feed the powered, so that I know they are all getting some food, and a mix of good quality food like
Shrimp King and a few others. They also love the snowflake food.

I also use a little Borneo Wild Shrimp Shield too when I do water changes.
