  1. Just a quick update. Tank still has about 3.0ppm ammonia. The roots of the floaters are becoming smaller and turning a bit mushy. I'm hoping they are just acclimating to the tank's parameters. patience, patience, patience.....
  2. It was a surprise when I got home from work yesterday to find one of my Aura Blue shrimp berried. I've had them since January and was beginning to wonder if I had all males. I have one which I believe is male and he is about 1 3/4" long. He's a big sucker. Is it possible it may take them longer to sexually mature than other shrimp since they get pretty big? These pics are from when I got them. I'll need to get a pic of the big guy. When I got them they were almost 3/4" in length. EIther way It was nice to see her with some eggs.
  3. Here's one of mine which is from F4 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Sparkling cherries! I love it! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. That's fu That's funny!! I did read that you don't need to glue them together. So, of course i blew into a section and air still comes out the end. I guess the fitting I have aren't as snug as yours. But no biggie!
  6. So, the corner HMF for a 10g are a custom order from ST. Here is the email response I received from them the cornerfilter kits are custom orders since the height varies depending on tank manufacturer. The small size is $18 for braces and foam (7.8x11.5x2 in in 45 ppi black) plus $10 for the the medium 8 in jetlifter. I will need the exact height from the glass bottom to the underside of the plastic frame to cut the braces. I'm thinking about ordering 6 of these And maybe 6 standard ones,
  7. Good to hear from you! Tank looks amazing man! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. DET, the rack is 77 in. W x 78 in. H x 24 commercial steel. I'm going with a closed loop air system which I managed to dry fit together over the weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Good point about the unknown chemicals. Swiss Tropicals Poret it is then. I have been looking forward to their jet tubes for sometime now. Thanks guys! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Which ppi do you think would be better for shrimp 30ppi or 40ppi?
  11. Here are a few ways to prevent spreading unwanted pests from your new plants. This was taken from aquariumplants.com. I've used the bleach method myself. Some mosses won't survive being dipped. Potassium Permanganate Dip This is the milder and safer method for the plants. Use a bucket filled about 1/2 full of water. Add enough Potassium Permanganate to color the water a dark pink. To disinfect and kill most algae use a 10-20 minute bath in this solution. Rinse the plants under tap water thoroughly and add dechlor to your tank...it neutralizes Potassium Permanganate too. You also could rinse by dipping in a bucket with dechlor and then rinsing under running tap water. CAUTION: Potassium Permanganate is a strong powerful oxidizer. Treatment should be made outside the tank...it will kill your bio-filter. Like all chemicals you should wear protective eye wear and gloves. Potassium Permanganate will stain clothing, carpeting, skin, etc. Never combine Potassium Permanganate and Formalin, this will result in explosive results and dangerous gases. Bleach (Chlorine) Dip This is a more effective and sure-fire way to kill algae but also has the risk of killing the plant in the process. Regular household bleach (i.e. Clorox) is diluted to a 5% (19 parts water to 1 part bleach) solution in a bucket. Have a second bucket filled with rinse water containing 3X the normal dechlor. Dip large leaf plants for 3 minutes, immediately move to the dechlor rinse bucket, then rinse under running tap water for a few seconds. If you still smell chlorine, repeat the rinse process again. For small delicate leaf plants and mosses dip for only 2 minutes in the bleach. To be safe, add dechlor to the tank after adding the plants back. Also, if you are dipping a lot of plants you may need to add more dechlor to your rinse water. Remember, the bleach dip can and may kill your plants, so use with caution. Use the same caution handling bleach as recommended for Potassium Permanganate. Alum Dip The Alum dip is more for killing microscopic bugs. Use at 1 tablespoon per gallon of water. Soak the plant for at least an hour, longer soaks of 2 to 3 days are needed to kill snails and snail eggs. For snails and snails eggs a 2-3 hour soak in a stronger solution of 3 tablespoons per gallon of water is a better choice. Alum isn't nearly as effective as the prior two for killing algae.
  12. I don't think the Ebay one is made of "Poret" foam. I can't compare them since i've never used either one before. Now that you mention about the perforated holes I can see those getting clogged up easily and being a pain to clean out. I could just cut off that end for better flow. For $9. shipped I may buy one and mess with it.
  13. I've looked at both filters time and time again. I hear nothing but good things about Swiss Tropicals. But they want double the price of an Ebay one. Is there any benefit of one over the other? It actually looks like the eBay one would move more water due to the extended perforated part where the sponge would normally sit on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. I went with these http://vi.raptor.ebaydesc.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemDescV4&item=301147401320&category=46314&pm=1&ds=0&t=1431821600132 I got them because of their efficiency. The lights have a high and low light setting. If I place the lights directly above the tank It will still put off enough light for low light plants and moss. I have the same type over a 20L and the low light works good. When working on the tanks I can just switch it to high light and run all 120 LEDs. I'm thinking HMF filtration for these. I may do 6 HMF and 6 double sponges. Not sure yet. I usually use 1 bag of Amazonia which is good for filling 2 10g tanks. I haven't thought about the 1/2 and 1/2 but I might give it a try now that you mentioned it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. The casing of the pump acts as a large heatsink displacing most of the heat. The pump itself gets pretty warm. According to my thermometer in the tanks it does not add heat. I just pulled the hose off one of the manifolds. The air is cool to the touch. No heat added to tank.
  16. BORNEO WILD DOSING Dance = 4 drops per 8 gallons = 1 drop for 2g Shield = Directions: Dose 1 spoon / 200Liters or ¼ smidgen spoon for 5g Smidgen 1/32 tsp of water after weekly change to maintain quality. Use twice / weekly when you have poor water quality, high bio-load or unknown death of shrimps. Shrimps will appear in a slight feeding frenzy digging around for the undissolved particles of Shield. You can observe that shrimps become much more active and have better appetite Minerock = 50g in a 10g 25g per 5g 12.5g per 2,5g Borneo Bee Balls = 1 ball per 1 gallon of water. You may use 1bottle for a 60Liter (15 gallon)
  17. The pump is an Elemental 272 wich I got from Sbarbee a while ago. Right now I have it powering 12 tanks with a lot of power left. I'm hoping it has enough to power at least 12 more. If not I have an Elemental 1744gph new in the box which I'll swap it out with.
  18. I had the same problem when I first got mine. I took the large oring off under the canister top and rubbed silicone grease all over it and put it back. Hasn't sucked air since. You can find oring silicone in just about any hardware store or Home Depot.
  19. The blue jelly and green hulks will eventually turn black. I've had quite a few blue jellies and some green hulks. Here are a few of mine that were looking promissing for a minute. I thought because they were now adult size that they would remain green. But they didn't.
  20. I picked up a few things today. I went with 3/4 ply. I think I'm going to paint them and throw a coat of wbpu. I also picked up some pvc and fittings for the air system. I just threw the lights up to see what they'll look like. They have 2 settings for high light and low light. If I just hang them on "S" hooks they sit 7" above the tanks. They'll be easy to adjust with a bit of chain. I'm going to drape black visqueen behind the rack. I think the tanks will pop out more. I know it doesn't look like much now but here's a few pics anywho.[emoji1][emoji1][emoji1] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. here is some moss I keep in my terrarium. I can't remember the name of it. I'll try and keep some submerged and let you know how it does. If anyone knows the name of this please chime in. My memory bank is on overload this week. [emoji38][emoji38][emoji38] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I have the rack set up and my lights just showed up. That's about it for the moment. I'm swamped at work and have been putting in 16 hour days. My job really gets in the way of my life. Lol!! I'll get some pics soon[emoji106]
