I'm running it 8 hrs with just some floaters in there. I have my led lights raised off the tank a few inches to prevent unwanted algae growth. I will test ammonia levels again tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

How are the mosses doing that you have converted so far? How long did it take for your local mosses to convert to submerged growth. I know that some convert faster than others. From my experience some are painfully slow. I collected some from the sierras last fall. I'll have to check on them and get back to you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Mayphly's New Shrimp Rack
mayphly replied to mayphly's topic in Filtration, lighting and other equipment
I remember seeing these in your journal. They are nice lights especially for the price. I'm going to run 6 10g tanks side by side on two of the shelves. I'm not sure what to put on the bottom. 2 40g tanks would be nice. Although it may be a tight fit.lol! I just found these lights and may make an offer on them. The wattage would be the same as if I were to get 6 of the ones you have. That is a plus running led's. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LED-60-0-50W-6500K-HI-LED-Aquarium-Light-Lumen-Freshwater-Plant-Tropical-Fish-/301147401320?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item461dc8ac68 With some chain and some clips these will be easy to adjust for height. -

no welding necessary with this rack. I was thinking about welding braces in the original rack I ordered. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Mayphly's New Shrimp Rack

I brought back the rack I originally ordered and traded it in for this one http://m.homedepot.com/p/Husky-77-in-W-x-78-in-H-x-24-in-D-Steel-Commercial-Shelving-Unit-ERZ782478W-4/202251082?cm_sp=BazVoice-_-RLP-_-202251082-_-x I set it it up tonight. It took less than an hour. Everything fit together with no issues. I had to shim the bottom just a little to get it all level. I'm going to get some 3/4" plywood sheets that will sit flush with the main frame. I still need to run air and a drip system for top offs. I want to add LED lights and I'm wondering if a 48 led strip would be enough lighting per shelf. I'm open to ideas on led's. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Added 50ml of Purify which was recommended by SL. This should help consume the ammonia within the next few days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's been 32 days and my ammonia level is still at 4.0ppm. I changed out half the water on day 30 with RO and added minerals to bump up my GH to 5. I added a bunch of floating plants yesterday to help speed things up a bit.

If my babies hatch this time around I'll save you some! -
I know that some people use Seachem Trace for their shrimp since it contains the trace minerals required for both shrimp and plants. I use Flourish in my neo tanks and they do fine. I use 1/3 the recommended amount. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Which Rack for Shrimp?
mayphly replied to DETAquarium's topic in Filtration, lighting and other equipment
After reading this I returned the rack I ordered. I like the one you linked to and I may end up getting the same one. I saw it set up at the HD store and it looks super heavy duty. But after reading all the reviews it sounds like a crap shoot. Some of the reviews are saying that it bows at half capacity. I would definitely add crossmembers and gussets if possible and go with the plywood decking. I may pick it up this weekend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I have them at TDS 150 GH 6 KH 0 PH 6.4-6.6 Temp 72 I had 3 females all drop their eggs last month. As of yesterday there is at least one that I can see that is berried again. Hopefully she hangs on to them this time. -

I grind up my food as well. In one of my tanks I have a feeding tube which is attached to a dish below. I pust a tiny amount in the tube and it slowly drifts to the bottom of the dish. It keeps the powder from going everywhere. Most the time the shrimp are swimming up the tube to get first dibs at the good stuff. It's pretty entertaining. I may have to get more tubes.

I've noticed that sometimes it can take shrimp up to a couple weeks until they've fully acclimated to their new enviornment.

just curious to know what your PH was before you switched to RO? What is your PH now? Are you using a buffering substrate? I'm thinking the acidity in your RO water may have something to do with it.

I've been keeping some aura blue tibee (ABT) females with some of my TB and today I was in for a nice surprise. I came home from work and saw that my ABT was finally saddled. So, I ran and got my camera thinking to myself that she'll be gone by the time I get everything set up. As I started taking a few pics and adjusting my lighting this male panda TB came out of nowhere and I managed to capture these shots. Even shrimp make weird facial expressions when they're getting it on like in the last pic.lol!

Last night I placed one of my female hornets with some of my TB. I'm hoping for something really nice to come out of this such as gold flakes TB [emoji38] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm welding steel crossmembers for reinforcement. I'll be using foam boards underneath the tanks. Each shelf is rated at 1000lbs. I'll have around 600lbs on each shelf. -
Super Rare Moss!!!!! Super Healthy Pilo & Pancuraji

These are definitely not Java moss. The fronds are a lot thicker and grow more compact than Java moss. Here's a few more pics of both types Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
