Soothing Shrimp
I've read that peppermint shrimp can be pretty easy and raise. Any others that are easy?
countryboy12484
Dont know... But im gonna follow this thread, i want to step into SW soooo bad Shrimpo and Soothing Shrimp
aquariumlover10
I. Think peppermint shrimp and sexy shrimp are easy, but all sw have a larval stage make sure your tank doesn't have corals(they eat the same food and larvae) and alot of macro alagae and pods, try live rock from here and remove corals to another tank. www.tbsaltwater.com

aquariumlover10
Haha, they are claled sexy shrimp because their tails are always bobbing up and down and it looks like theyre dancing, also they host anemones. Here a article on peppermint shrimp breeding and training(yes you can train shrimp, most of the time it is to eat out of your hand or clean it, scarlet skunk cleaner shrimo will clean your arm if your messing around in the tank ). http://www.fishlore.com/how-to-raise-train-peppermint-shrimp.htm Also if you order from the site in my first post get some peppermint shrimp from them because they eat apaista(wrong spelling) pest anemones so are more desirable. Soothing Shrimp
I know peppermint shrimp eat meat too. As babies they are large enough to eat BBS
aquariumlover10
Ok, oh and just to get thehang of the larval(don't know if you've bred shrimp with it)you could try just some ghisties first.
featherblue
Raising sw shrimp is a different world from our fw babies. ...most need a circular motion flow like a kresiel for their larval stage. Sexies are one of the easiest because they have a shorter larval period ( 30 days)...skunk cleaners are 6 months.
aquariumlover10
What!?!? That's long, yeah I would try sexies.
Soothing Shrimp
I've heard about the circular flow. Makes me think two tanks would be good. One for housing and breeding, another for raising larvae.
aquariumlover10
Maybe do what people with jellyfish fry do, they make a round tank, and the make the water slowly spin in a circle, instead of going like this /\ \/(from side) They do the same but it looks like that from the top. countryboy12484
Yeah... But im sure soothings like me... Round tanks cost big $ and were trying to do this low budget
aquariumlover10
Haha, maybe try and get a few 10gs and have only a powerhead and live rock for filtration, and move berried shrimp into one tank, and once they are out of larval stage put in another one intill big enough to put back into maintank.m
Soothing Shrimp
Don't 'cha know it, countryboy! LOL Although there are some great DIY kreisel tanks to make for incredibly cheap. Like a 10g tank and water jug: http://www.ventralfins.com/diy_kreisel.html Featherblue is a member here and had a great post on how he did one: http://www.shrimpspot.com/index.php?/topic/283-hi-all/?hl=kreisel

Soothing Shrimp
featherblue, have you had any luck raising larvae to settling (I just learned that word. LOL) yet? aquariumlover10
featherblue
Ive only had a chance to try once, but it didn't go well. My kresiel was cycled with a tank live rock and had a hydroid infection. I lost my babied after about a week as the hydroid population exploded
Soothing Shrimp
Sorry to hear that.
featherblue
I had a pretty good idea it was a vain effort as the babies were born, so I took it as a learning experience. I now know how to id hydroids and to cancel the project if I see them. Ill be trying again here in a few weeks....may have to go with no media if my rocks not ready in time. aquariumlover10 and Soothing Shrimp
