slycat929
I had been using Mosura Mineral Plus for my OEBT for quite some time and always had consistent breeding. I recently got into TBs and wanted to try a different product for them, so bought MK Breed Blue Diamond. I started using that for my OEBT too, but I feel like they aren't breeding as well as they used to. The TBs are doing well, and seem to be growing and are always active. I have not changed any other parameters in my tanks and the TDS and gh are the same, just different products. I was thinking of just switching back to MMP for my OEBT and just use different remineralizers. Have you seen this with your shrimp too? EricM
its more about stability. you changed to a remineralizer that is probably completely different in its chemical makeup so thats a big change for your shrimp.
slycat929
Yeah, I was thinking that too. It has been about a month and I was hoping they would have adjusted.
mayphly
Wow! I've been using mmp since the beginning. I've had huge success in shrimp breeding while using it. Recently I have been thiking about switching to MK blue diamond as well. It's a better bang for your buck! Now you got me thinking. What dicobee says totaly makes sense. chibikaie
So ... with that in mind, should I consider using the same remineralizer as the breeder? Or should I just go for a very slow drip acclimation, considering that I'll be using tap water that will be quite different anyway?
EricM
finding out what your breeder uses for everything is a great idea. less changes. find out their water parameters, what foods they use, how they setup their tanks, etc etc etc. its obvious they are having success right? chibikaie
True. Although the entire point of getting neos (other than not wanting to spend a fortune) was to have shrimp that did not necessarily need RO water, so I was not planning on reproducing conditions exactly. (I'm aware of all the arguments for RO + remineralizer. I just know that it won't work for me.)
countryboy12484
I tried doing neos in tap water.. Didnt work out well. Soothing Shrimp
Soothing Shrimp
Same experience countryboy. Some people do have magic tap though.
EricM
the problem is people use the term "tap water" like its the same experience for everybody. gotta remember tap water is different all over country and often different from day to day in the same house. so saying "tap water" really means nothing from person to person. chibikaie
My tap water is pretty favorable - I've kept neos before in tap plus something to boot the GH from 3 to 5. I know it's not like that everywhere, though.
countryboy12484
Honestly.. I didnt think i would have problems.. My water out of the tap is ph 7.4 tds 20-25 gh3 kh3.. I would remin the water to up gh and tds and still had issues
Soothing Shrimp
There's all kins of stuff we don't test for as hobbyists in our water.
slycat929
I know back when I used to use my tap, it would have to be remineralized anyway, so I just switched over completely.
