ctaylor3737
How many TB's did you end up starting the tank with? Seems so hard to find a a female TB all I got was males in my last purchase.a lot of the reasons I did mischlings the first 4 I got were all males. Was easier to buy 20 of them then 20 TB to start.-Chris
wicca32
i was given 7 or 8. i know when i pulled stuff the other day i only found 7 shrimp. might have lost one. i do belive i have a female bkk though. its super hard to tell on them cause they are dark. i dont sex bast on body shape i go on shape of 2nd tail segment/scale what ever they are called lol. the blacks you cant tell at all but it looks like one of the white bars might be showing me a female in hiding lol. its a sad day. got my 3 new tb and my blue didnt make it. the wine and ruby red made it just fine though. they are dripping and i will get pics later when i release them. on a side note all 6 of the orange rili made it quite well and they will be dripped as soon as i get the reds into the tb tank im waiting till temps cool down a bit to try again. i think it was just to warm and thats what happened with the blue. already worked it all out. the stupid temps here are getting crazy. i dont think i will even be getting fish till later in the fall probably. we have only been getting down to 75 at night. Soothing Shrimp
At first I thought you posted that first paragraph double. Then I realized you meant me to read it by using one paragraph for each eye.

wicca32
well after taking a close look at some of the pics including the one of the shadow panda it looks like i might have 3 or 4 female tb. i now for sure that there are 2 smaller one about half the size of the rest. all came in pretty much the same size and they are the same age so its looking good i might have eggs in the next couple months woo hoo! im not going on shape of the shrimp but how the tail segmens are shaped and their size. they all pretty much have the same body shape so cant really go on that. Soothing Shrimp
Can you explain a bit more about tail segments = fem?
wicca32
speedie i used your photo for this because it was the best one that showed both sexes together all shrimp are shaped the same. females will get that bigger 2nd segment in their tail. males wont. on clear neo's it can be hard to see as well as any clear shrimp. wicca32
now i could be wrong because none of these have had eggs yet and they are not quite old enough yet. as soon as i get eggs i will for sure update this post male.... 95% sure any way lol female .... 95% sure (look at scallops on edge of tail)
wicca32
ha ha ha 100% sure female bottom of the segment is what has color and creates the spot lol.
Soothing Shrimp
Interesting. So the scallop on one segment is double wide? ON neos I always went by Nike swoop vs curve. On cards it looks as if this may be the better ID?
wicca32
they are all the same neo and card. its just really hard to see the shape of that 2nd scale, plate, segment, what ever it is on the bkk, and panda. i have to look at the bottom scallop. if you go though some of nicks pick you can pit it out pretty easy. my theory is that that bigger segment is shaped that way to allow for extra room for eggs. on one of nicks new blue diamond pics you can see how that middle segment overlaps both the one before and after it on the tail. i think kinda like a pleat so to speak. its also what gives the females the more rounded tail shape. like i said im just guessing with my tb because i cant really see the shape of it on them be it with naked eye or in most pics but time will tell for sure. wicca32
i try to help when i can hehe. and its just something i noticed when i was sexing the other types of shrimp so i thought i would pass it on
Greenteam
I find it hard to sex the TB's unlike like the CRS/CBS. I was using the same concept to look at mine that you mention and thought my shadow panda was a female till I saw "him" chase a female CRS and mate lol. I will see if I can snap a pic of him and see why I thought it was a girl with the large 2nd segment.
wicca32
well like i said with TB im not totally sure yet as mine are not quite old enough to breed. but time will tell
Soothing Shrimp
Greenteam, did they truly breed or was it a female on female? Do you know? In Leopard Geckos, we used to call the female genders who tried to mate with females, "hot fems." The higher temperature incubated at was believed to be the cause. wicca32
angels will do the same thing. 2 females can pair up and one lay eggs and one follow. eggs wont hatch of course but still happens.
Greenteam
To me it look like the typical chase, catch, and mate behavior. I know after the shadow in question did this "it" went back to normal grazing while the other males still did the frantic mating dance around the tank. I snap a photo of the shadow I'm talking about and you can kinda see the large 2nd segment. I would upload but I can't figure out how to do so. wicca32
to me that one looks male. the 2nd segment is a bit larger but if it was female would be alot larger and over lap both the 1st and 3rd segments
