aquariumlover10
In my Java moss there's some weird stringy web things, it doesn't look like algae or anything, it's clearish white, but nothing picks at it, and stuff gets caught in it. mayphly
Looks sorta like algae. Could it be dead plant matter?
aquariumlover10
I don't know, no plant have died recently, and I haven't added anything, the only different things are I changed the light to a strong one and a shrimp molted. aquariumlover10
Oh and it wasn't there last night.
Soothing Shrimp
Looks to me like diatoms. At least that's what someone told me it was a long time ago and I've referred to it that way ever since, so take that with a grain of salt. They tend to go away on their own as the tank ages. aquariumlover10
aquariumlover10
Ok thanks, the tank is about 3'months old, so I guess some stuff could still be there from cycle.
RyeGuy411
I see things like that in my tank, in my case it is dead hair algae from the pH change. They have a tendency to drift around and settle. Or sometimes it is a random cat hair, but hey he helps with the shrimpin. aquariumlover10
It's back, but there's more this time and some is wrapped around my moss, could this be related to the fact that I am getting a green algae prob?
Shortfin
Looks like Staghorn algae to me.
aquariumlover10
Staghorn looks black, but if it is white it is Webby and thinner then this, I but I guess it could be, I had bba in my other tank, i wonder if it is like a leaf or something that decayed, I put dead Java fern and sword leave in there now and then for biofilm. sillyclownloach
I've had it before. Kinda looks like spider webbing right? I typically do a water change and leave it alone or if it's getting unruly turn the light off for a day after a water change. It doesn't seem to be harmful or a type of stringy algae so I don't worry that much about it

Staghorn is greenish/grayish. It's your tank so you have a better look than I do. I'm just baseing on the picture you show.
aquariumlover10
Thanks if u check my journal you'll know what I did, but I moved the Java around so I can't see the stuffanymore so it shouldn't have light, and I saw a shrimp eating it so it should be fine.
