07armando17
Hey guys seeking for some advice/help. I have a 3 gallon tank. No top cover so water evaporates quite a bit after a week or so. So my question is how do i go about topping it off/ filling it back up. Ive read about using ro water for top offs but in a 3 gallon would it be easier just to do a small water change then add the rest back with ro water thats been remineralized? I'm planning on adding a top cover to stop the evaporation lol
aquariumlover10
You could make a DIY auto top off system(ATO) and fill with what water you usually use and lead the hose into the tank, and it'll probably be enough for like a week or so. sarah
The problem with replacing evaporated water (topping off) with remineralized water is every time you do this the TDS will go up. Best to top off with RO or filtered water.

DETAquarium
When doing any top offs use RODI water not remineralized. As stated when water evaporates the dissolved solids stay behind. 07armando17

RyeGuy411
If you do buy plastic at the hardware store make sure it is Lexan and not regular plexi glass it will started sagging, the Lexan will not but is slightly more expensive.
