linda.m.amundsen.1
What is the difference between the two? My husband uses distilled water for his cpap machine. Can I use this to do an immediate water change tonight and then get some R/O water for tomorrow? Johnnydok and Edwardnah
Soothing Shrimp
ro is forced through a membrane while distilled is produced by steam condensed into water.
linda.m.amundsen.1
Is one better than the other?
Steve R.
Distilled water is purer. The quality of the RO water can vary. JamesHe
Shrimpo
You can use distilled water to compensate for evaporation, or add some minerals to it for water change.
zodiac
i make distilled for my tanks. same as RO on a good filter.
JamesHe
either one is good. Shrimpie
Citycode01
Depending on your filter quality or quality your distiller. You just need to check TDS for both and one with lowest number would be better. 0 is ideal. If both 0 then they are both perfect. linda.m.amundsen.1
judyok
Thinking about switching to distilled or finding a better place for R/O. Walmarts R/O nitrates are at 5 ppm. I tested my tap water to verify the validaty of the API test and my tap water's nitrates are at 0 ppm. geez!
Citycode01
The best way is to buy your own ro unit they not too expensive this days.
judyok
Yes they are expensive, but I figure distilled doesn't cost that much and I'm keeping a tight fitting lid on the tank to reduce evaporation.

Citycode01
You should be fine, any RO water's TDS below 20ppm is good. So you meant that ro water with 5ppm nitrate is fine? No way I would use it, it would just adding extra nitrate in the tank.

It's not about cost of the water. You don't need to go in the shop to buy water and carry big canister all the time. You just fill large container at home when you need some water and when you runout you fill it up again and you will know that your water is perfect. It will be less stress for you and your shrimps. Citycode01
I'm talking about TDS, not Nitrate. I knew you didn't mean that
judyok
I know it's just the initial outlay for an R/O filter.
