Amyers22
Does anyone use a macro lens on their phone and really like it? There are a ton to pick from on amazon, but they all have mixed reviews. I would be using it to take pictures of my shrimp of course so I thought I would ask my shrimp friends for reviews TomCruise

It will be easier for you to set the budget first before you go shopping. Generally, a single good piece of optical glass is priced at $100 +/- $20 no matter for phone camera or for full-fledge camera. Anything lower will not produce near flawless optical effect. If you have enough amount of budget (around $80 to $120), you may consider one of the following brand: http://www.manfrotto.com/klyp https://www.schneideroptics.com/ecommerce/CatalogSubCategoryDisplay.aspx?CID=1840 http://www.olloclip.com/gallery/ Try to avoid brands that are not in optical industry or they are not specialise in making phone camera lenses. I love the olloclip. I've looked at it several times. Right now I don't have the budget for a higher priced (better quality) lens. Amazon has quite a few for $7-$35. I was curious to see if anyone had tired any of those and liked them.

Faralon
Amanda, for the price, they're huge bang for the buck. I use the ones that come with a little circular magnet to attach them to your phone with. One ring is placed around the lens on your smartphone, and the lenses attach to it. Here are pictures take with my iPhone 6, no edits. I use them mostly on my old Kodak Zi8 for movies. Here is a regular tank shot with the iPhone 6 Here it is with the fisheye lens, same distance. (I haven't put a magnet on the iPhone yet so I'm just holding these in place with my fingers for these shots. Here it is with the Wide angle Lens (wide angle +macro lens.) same distance. They screw together. The wide angle lens doesn't focus unless they're together. Here is as close as I can take with the iPhone 6. With the macro lens. Faralon
Sorry, I don't, and there aren't any markings outside of the label of the lens. Pretty sure it was in the 12$ range, Amazon buy. At that price, there gonna all be roughly the same. That's my guess atleast. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Since the DoF is so narrow, do you use a tripod or something to support your phone?

Unfortunately these shots usually require about 20 pictures to find that one clean crisp image. But for $50.00 I couldn't be happier. Shrimpy Daddy
Hey mate, 1 out of 20 pictures is fantastic!!! You must have a very steady hand. LOL!!! When I use freehand, I usually have to rest my lens onto the tank glass for stability. Even I do that, I probably able to get 1 out of 50 pictures. (^_^")y

Shrimple minded
Amanda, had the same questions as you a month or so ago..........thought I would take a chance with one of the $7 amazon macro lenses. I hadn't really used it much, but your thread made me dig it out and see what it could do. Prior to this lens I wasn't able to capture anything this close with my phone or DSLR (don't own a macro camera lens). I'm posting this to see how it looks online as well. In my opinion, for seven bones, they are worth it just for the fun factor. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UYB0GRC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00 These were taken through the sidewalls of my glass feeding dish, in addition to the front glass of the aquarium.
