OMG Aquatics
What would happen if java moss received lighting 24/7? Whats the fastest way to grow java moss?
Mikeyp85
I think it's a pretty fast grower if you just tie it to something and give it a normal lighting schedule.. And Im sure co2 and ferts will speed up growth like with anything else.
Soothing Shrimp
You will get hair algae almost guaranteed. I have my lights on for long periods, but will have to start using timers. Louie
Louie
I find it grows faster 10 - 12 hours light max . That is what I use. Light 24/7 will not help it at all, think will hurt it.
Soothing Shrimp
I've heard any plant needs rest time to grow well.
juancho
I have 10 hours lights...but lately noticed some brown algae on them...anyone knows why is that? they tend to be green and growing well......now they look more brown and seem like growth has stopped..... Soothing Shrimp
Mine grew fine at 80-84 as well. I think it just needs to get used to new params, then it will grow fine.
juancho
I live in a hot city ....my tank is 28-31 C or in F>82-87....
OMG Aquatics
Should I use a planting soil like eco complete and throw some moss in there. Would that speed things up?
ctaylor3737
Soil probably won't help grows slower when attached. I usually just have it as a floater with lots of flow and it grows awesome. Moss I tend to ignore and it will grow. Then you trim tons of it and you'll sill have a lot left. -Chris
OMG Aquatics
How does your moss float? All my moss sinks instantly
ctaylor3737
I just put it in there. All my shrimp tanks have floating moss. -Chris

Louie
Poopians, The fastest way moss grows is either attached to driftwood or some decoration that it can attach itself to (I tie it on with twine) It will grow on the bottom of the tank but I find it grows faster and algae free when attached to something . Perhaps on bottom of tank it gets waste caught in it and more prone to algae .
