Stratefyte
Hey just wondering if someone knowledgeable could possibly grade my rcs. I have had this colony for 2 years now and I am looking to start selling some to the lfs. Any help or suggestions would be fantastic. Thanks. Soothing Shrimp
Yepper. Higher grade Sakura. The nice thing about your shrimp is they have potential to be painteds if you cull. The pigment is nice and thick.
Stratefyte
That's great news to me. On that note I will continue to cull and develop these guys since they are kind of sentimental to me being the first colony I started (I don't count my ghost shrimp as they can survive in mud) Soothing Shrimp and Wygglz
Soothing Shrimp
Actually, count yourself lucky with your ghost shrimp. Many people have them die within a month after buying them. Now if you can only get their larva to survive.
Stratefyte
I have heard so many people claim that the ghosts need brackish water to survive the larval stage however I have always had success in pure freshwater and the ghosts I have are descended from 2 berried females I bought from petco 6 years ago! Way too many to count and they keep all the snails in check.
jledermann
ghosts eat snails? I totally ignored ghost shrimp all together my whole time in the hobby lol
Stratefyte
Yeah mine can't get enough of them. I started by using the mag float to crush the excess snails and soon the ghost shrimp were pouncing on the live snails and totally annihilated them from most of my aquariums. Soothing Shrimp
What params do you keep your ghosts at?
Stratefyte
Temperature is anywhere from 60-78 depending on the tank and my ph levels are all pretty steady at 6.8-7.0 I have not tested my tds (I will test it once I invest in expensive king kongs or bees) but I am not currently concerned since I've never had a problem. Even my little 5.5 gallon which has temperature swings regularly has them reproducing on a normal basis.
