countryboy12484
Yeah thats where I got these guys from... some of my shrimp have a dark spot like that and some have faded just like your Derek
countryboy12484
I dont think I will buy from those guys again... Derek
Soothing Shrimp
Nope. That's the guts. Their stomach is in their head. The saddle will be yellowish and on their upper back behind the head.
countryboy12484
The only reason I thought it was the sadle was because when I noticed the dark spot I couldn't see a saddled like I could before Derek
OblongShrimp
I second what soothing said. Most their internal organs are where that dark spot is.
OblongShrimp
behind and above that dark area is where the saddle will appear.
Soothing Shrimp
Not my pic, and kinda hard to see with yellow on yellow, but you get the idea:
OMG Aquatics
So what does it mean when it's black? Why do only some have it?
countryboy12484
What im saying is that in my case the shrimp was obviously saddled just like the pick... now the ones that have the dark spot no longer have a visible saddle... Soothing Shrimp
When I first got snowball shrimp years ago, I asked the same thing. It's more easily seen in them. The answer is it depends on what they ate. heh All shrimp don't eat the same thing at all times, so it will come and go. Hungle64
Soothing Shrimp
If no male mates with a fem, it is possible for the saddle to be reabsorbed over time.
countryboy12484
My shrimp have been coloring up over the past few weeks... I had just assumed the deep red was blocking the view of the saddled causing it to look darker .. I just saw poopians thread and thought I would see what you guys thought... countryboy12484
That makes since.. soothing I had wondered about that Derek
OMG Aquatics
I would say InvertObsession does pretty good in regards to giving customers a good aged shrimp. Most shrimp you buy on eBay are only about 2-6 weeks old. InvertObsession shipped me 2-3 month old ones that are ready to mate and be berried. Soothing Shrimp
Many shippers- including myself- send younger aged shrimp to handle acclimation better, handle shipping better from stress, and have them live a longer time. Also, if I sent all my adult shrimp, I'd have no more to make babies for my selective breeding projects. LOL Pika and Hungle64

LOL which is why I say it's a + that InvertObsession would send 2-3 month old shrimp when most shrimp sellers would never do that.
