Soothing Shrimp
A couple pics from yesterday that even managed to come out kinda okay. Extremely hard for me to get any of them to come out in pics.:
LunarValkyrie
how old are they now & when will hey really start to look like killifish?
Soothing Shrimp
I started this project hatching on June 23. Supposed to reach full maturity in 5 weeks, and color up within two- three. 10 days old today.
Soothing Shrimp
I'm enjoying doing brine shrimp. LOL I didn't think I would.
wicca32
they look like moms angel babies lol. green water is great. does not have to be super green either. its full of so much great stuff for them. you should try it on a batch to see if there is a growth difference or not. ive wondered about that on guppies but never really measured it. Soothing Shrimp
Made the decision to fill another 2.5g and move over the three larger fish, so the very small ones still stand a chance. The 2.5g is currently filling. I have to make the TDS the same-ish and then I'll transfer as long as the temp is the same, too.
Soothing Shrimp
OKay, transferred them over. Actually transferred 4 over. They were all hanging under the surface together. I read that teh males get bigger first, however that was from one source and I wasn't able to find another to corroborate it.

Soothing Shrimp
Yepper. Saw that right before I bought the eggs.
Soothing Shrimp
Pix Pix Pix OKay, but not much to see, and it's really hard for me to take pics this small. These are about 2-3x the size they were. These are the guys in the new tank because they are growing so fast. This gives a good idea of current size of the biggest at 12 days old. That hose is an airline hose. These next two are by the silicone in the 2.5g tank. The color you see is actually BBS in the stomach.
LunarValkyrie
Awesome! I hope I have your luck with my Blue Gularis and Red Golden Wonders.
Soothing Shrimp
I'm sure you'll do much better than I. heh Here's a shot of tank #1 with the smaller ones still. See the fungus, etc? In a normal tank I would clean all that up, but these guys are so small it may actually be of some benefit to them for micro organisms. (?) Anyway, many more are still around than I thought would be. I've been changing about half the water every 2-3 days.
Shrimpo
Why don't you use snails to clean up for you and simply scope their droppings? that fungus may be bad for fish but I am not sure.
Soothing Shrimp
Not sure either, but I figure since they are born in puddles with animal droppings and who knows what, this is actually cleaner than what they would be living in their life cycle in the jungle. Since they tend to rest on the bottom 90+% of the time right now, I'm afraid the snails may just eat them. I may put some in the new tank though since they are bigger. Shaun
Why not just raise mosquitos they are easy since you need do nothing but put a bowl of water out.I went away for a weekend earlier this year gave the dogs enough food for two days and left the tap running a small stream when comming back it was full of mozzies sure you could also try that cause it is summer over by you guys and the mosquitos bother you in anyway why not put it to some positive work? Soothing Shrimp
Definitely an idea. I may use that yet. In the meantime, I have a pound or so of brine shrimp eggs, so I may as well continue hatching them since they are a sure thing right now. The village sprays for mosquitos, and although they definitely don't get everything (!) I don't think I've ever seen a mozzie larvae to ID it. LOL
Shaun
They look like small tadpoles usually in water that does not get agitated a lot.But if the ville is spraying I would rather not take a chance by using them to feed fish. Soothing Shrimp
SO now I can fins most of them by looking for orange spots on the ground. That's the bbs showing through the tummy. I added a ramshorn in each tank now to help with clean up, and it looks like it is going pretty well.
Soothing Shrimp
Oh, still no colors showing yet at day 17. Looks like the grey color has been coming in though on the fish in the 2nd tank. The 4 fish in the 2nd tank have far surpassed the ones in the first tank. The ones in the 2nd tank are around 1/2" now.
Shrimpo
How are the fry doing?
Soothing Shrimp
Day 25, if my adding is correct. Doing well. The largest of the four is around 5/8" (~1.5cm) The smallest in the first tank is still under 1/4" (~.5cm) The largest is just beginning to get a very small tinge of color
Shrimpo
I see the bars start showing on the bottom one, they look great.
Soothing Shrimp
Thanks. The camera picks up the new color better than my eyes do. Hard to photograph such tiny swimming fish.
