Hungle64
For shrimp meal what do you think of buying zoo med dried river shrimp and crushing it into a fine powder. Or maybe mealworm meal buying flukes dried mealworms or crickets and making a powder out of those? You may like what i use as one of the ingredients to make koi food is shrimp tail. I slow bake in oven until crispy then grind it to powder.
Subtletanks91
Now that's an idea, but that would require a looooooot of shrimp shell tails.
countryboy12484
Lol just have a bbq lol
Subtletanks91
Lol. We BBQ every week. Usually crane as Ada, tri tip, chicken, corn and ribs. I'm the only sea food eater in my house. Which is ironic because I'm the only one besides my daughter who is completely enthused by my fish tanks.
countryboy12484
I have a better idea go to red lobster and get the all ya can eat shrimp.... have the wife put a Tupperware in her purse for the shells lol
countryboy12484
I bet you would get the same look I got when I told my wife not to drain my daughter's kiddy pool because I wanted to grow skeeter larva for the fish... lol
Subtletanks91
Bwahahahahahahha I get that look everytime I talk to mt fiance about anything related to my tanks. Her look is the " you know I have no clue what your saying but your telling me anyways" look haha
Hungle64
You don't need that much of shrimp tail to make the feed.
Subtletanks91
It depends on how much wet food your using. You need enough cold binder to bind it and make it a solid clay. For one pat wet shredded fish you would need two parts binder, vit, probiotic, algae to make the clay
Subtletanks91
Ok, so using my diy smarts, not really...... I used a plastic tupaware container and the back end of a box cutter to grind, after heating to remove extra moisture, my cricket and shrimp meal..... This took forevvvvvvveeeeeeer so I decided it was time to get a mortar and pestle. With that in mind what so you guys think of this one? I'm going to need to grind up chlorella, lacto tablets, more shrimp and more crickets for meal. Etc etc http://www.amazon.com/White-Marble-Spice-Grinder-Frontier/dp/B000BU7U5M/ref=sr_1_10?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1404856272&sr=1-
countryboy12484
I think it would work fine...
Puddles
I think a coffee grinder would be much easier and cheaper (9.99 coffee grinder on amazon have great reviews). Subtletanks91
Coffee grinder may be perfect. Of course. Adding to the list of to buy items haha. But a coffee grinder for one or two lacto tabs??
Puddles
I don't know. You'd be using it in an unorthodox manner But it chews through coffee beans so maybe tablets would be no problem. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Subtletanks91
Haha that's very true. My fiancé asked me what I want for my birthday in two weeks. Lol I may have to tell her a magic bullet and a mortar and pestle. Just to keep it simple.
Subtletanks91
A good source for zeaxanthin, is paprika, it's supposedly the vitamin that gives yellow pigment.
Subtletanks91
Lysine can be supplied through red meats, lamb, pork, poultry. But those can't be utilized by fish. An alternative, cold water, and fatty fish are cod and sardines for lysine supplement.
Duff0712
I believe Brewer's yeast is very high in Lysine as well.
Soothing Shrimp
I don't know if zeaxanthin has the same properties to turn neos weird colors or not.
Subtletanks91
Would you like to do an experiment foe shrimp Bryce. Throow some paprika in the tank!! Haha
Soothing Shrimp
Well, that's how I found out about the other color changer. I don't really have an open tank right now, but perhaps someone else may help out with some yellow culls and see what happens?
Subtletanks91
Haha. This could be interesting. If you feed a color changer such as spirulina or Astaxanthin for long periods of time while breeding do you think it could create a genetic anomole changing and altering the color of the shrimp permanently. Soothing Shrimp
No. It would have no affect on the offspring.
Subtletanks91
Hmmmm... You think maybe you could force evolve them by feeding them voraciously with spirulina
