mangisda
My fantasy blues started hatching a few weeks ago. Babies are all blue but there is one that is red. Should i cull it or leave it? Will it affect the next generation? Or should i leave it since it carries the gene? Its my first batch of blues. I always go by the rule "when in doubt, do not use." So i would take it out for now. Soothing Shrimp
Do you know what fantasy blues were bred from? With very few exceptions, when an unwanted color is thrown- take it out.
Subtletanks91
Its possible the color could change I would wait until it is half an inch to three fourths an inch
Soothing Shrimp
From red to blue?
Jayr_Tigley
I would say cull it. You wouldnt want any sudden irregularities in the future
Subtletanks91
It depends is it a solid red like pfr or a normal low grade cherry. I think I read somewhere that one of the shrimp that's born a red and changes color as it get older.

Jayr_Tigley
Aha. Then maybe like isolate it for a while to see if the colors will change or not just in case
countryboy12484
Just keep an eye on it... it wount be mature enough to mate for a while..
Soothing Shrimp
That's why I asked what line this was bred from. Classic BV are born red, then the red fades and just leaves blue. The blue rilis don't do this. (Recently my darkest BV don't do this either, but that's another story. heh)
ctaylor3737
Yea just let it run and see what you get. It'll be awhile till it's ready to breed.

mangisda
Soothing, I just got them off eBay as fantasy blue. I did not ask the seller. But from the looks of it they come from blue rilis as some of them look like this guy. You could also see the babies. They are blue from the get go. Sorry for the dark pic. I am currently using aquaticlife led with red white and blue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
countryboy12484
They look like what ive seen called blue wizards. ..
Soothing Shrimp
Are blue wizards a type of blue carbons?
Puddles
So many different blue names. I know blue dreams are kind of a dark blue carbon rili. Don't know about wizards.
Soothing Shrimp
See? This is where things get muddy. A genetic sequencer would sure be nice to figure out what "colors" are redundant, and which ones are unique.
Subtletanks91
Well that's where you come in. Time to get inventin haha

Subtletanks91
Pretty shrimps. leave the baby for a while. Won't be able to breed yet. See it it changes colors if not cull it.
mangisda
Guys here is the sellers reply. Hope this helps. "It's all selective breeding from CHOCOLATE x LAZURITE---> CARBON ---> CARBON x CARBON---> FANTASY BLUE, DARK BLUE and BLUE JELLY" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Soothing Shrimp
So it sounds like they bought a bunch of different blues and put them all in the same tank.
mangisda
I knew it was a mess when i got them. Any suggestions? Should i separate rilis, jellies, and dark/fantasy blues? Or it would still be a mess? How many generations till they breed true? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
